I think it's a bore honestly. They try to stuff too much in and yet, it pays off little. Pacing and editing are kinda off and awkward.The one good redeeming quality is Idris Elba. He gave a great performance but as much as I love him, he really couldn't save the whole movie for me. C

^Basically agree. Elba is great but the movie is overstuffed. Honestly Mandela's life was perhaps too large to make one two and a half hour movie out of it. The film basically rushes through, ticking off all the major shit that happened to him without much emotional attachment. There are strong moments that pop up every so often, but you're probably better off reading the book this is based on if you want his story.

I liked this, but I felt like it needed to be longer, so we can explore more of Mandela's life. Elba was great as aalways. 7/10

Mainly b/c of Naomie Elba is great as well 

but feels a bit formilaic

This movie moves so fast that you don't get any real concept of Mandela's actual life. I don't really blame it because to do it justice you would probably be looking at a 10 hour film. His life is simply not compatible with a 2-2.5 hour film unfortunately.

 

Elba was great though.
