Oh, and I don't know why people are on JLaw's case. I thought she was fantastic. Yeah, she might have been a little young for that character, but that's nitpicking as far as I'm concerned. Seems to me that some of y'all just wanna go against the grain.

Part of it comes from having personal knowledge/experience with the subset of New Yorkers/Long Islanders that JLaw played. She was not convincing at all, it was just your stereotypical version of one with cliché housewife hysterics.

i was shitting on jlaw's performance but thinking about it she's really not the worst in the category. that's probably june squibb. there's something so cbs sitcom about some of her line deliveries.

i won't watch the oscars tomorrow. usually do but I gotta be up at 5am on monday morning and that's usally when the oscars finish here. i look forward to reading the thread though.

nothing like that, but sometimes it feels like she's playing it up a bit too much. particularly that scene in the graveyard, which was awful.

 

bruce dern gave my favorite performance of the best actor nominees though, so i guess it evens out.

I never shit on Jlaw's performance. It's a good, fun performance. It's just not worthy of awards and that's the problem.

Jlaw is okay, but Julia Roberts is easily the worst in the category (or any category, for that matter). Nothing but incessant yelling and scenery chewing. "EAT THE GODDAMN FISH!"

sure, if you only watched that scene. maybe a couple others. there's definitely more to that performance. (she's way better than streep btw). wouldn't have nominated it but it's her best work since closer.

Eh, the movie and performances just didn't work for me at all. There were good moments, but it just was suffocating and overblown.

 

I would have preferred seeing nominations for Martindale or Nicholson.
