Yeah Last year week before Xmas WIR just under 1m, its also hard with previews given # days screening # sessions etc

EDIT - I also noted something else which makes this opening even more impressive.... it opened on Friday (not the normal thursday) so it essentially made that average with only 3 days of play... most impressive!

I'm not sure how much awareness there was that it had previews. I didn't know until last Thursday when I noticed it on event cinemas website. I also note it's playing Christmas Day@RTH - please keep up to date on box office If u have time. Family first as always mate but if u get a moment post away

$1m on Boxing Day was always a lock. It will probably be $4m+ at a minimum.

just been taking a look across a few of the major cinemas in brisbane:

 

Thursday only:

chermside ~ all Gold Class are sold out; all other sessions (vmax, 3d etc) are about 80 to 90% full already on average across the day.

indooroopilly ~ in a similar state to chermside pretty much full up

carindale - also in a similar state though there is an occasional session which is about 50% full.

garden city - seems to be running around 50 to 70% full at the moment.  

 

these are the major 4 cinemas in brisbane (all event / bcc) and signs are good we are heading for a big day...  i'd say if we are that full still a day from release on presales alone, walk ups should account for quite a bit more then....

I'll check again tonight but we've sold about 30% of last year's boxing day tickets for The Hobbit so far. Though the 3D share is about 50% instead of 70% last year here.
