JJ-8

TG must have had a much bigger sat / sun than expected after the midweek #'s. Minions got the expected 15% uptick. But IO. That uptick (34% over last weekend) is most impressive. JW up to 44.5m. Using comparisons to various movies I'm thinking a projected total of 56m. Minions just short of 20m. I'm projecting a total of 31m from here. Minions is trailing dm2 at the same point by over 2m and the gap is widening. IO up to 16.8m. This great increase has bumped my projection up to 26m now. MU continues to be the best comparison. (No coincidence that MU faced DM2 at similar timings back in 2013 :) )

Of note (but not surprising given the holidays), JW now leads the avengers at the same point in its run (only reason it started behind is TA has 1 extra day of play - that gigantic Wednesday )

It's not that great for TG.  The top 4 will all be roughly $4-4.5m.

agreed - thats not great at all and to honest for a film like this, it really needs an opening closer to 6m or 8m to be ok.

To give context here....

Salvation did 7.7m over the the queen's birthday long weekend.  but fell a mighty 64% in it's second weekend :P  finalising around 15m.

T3 pulled down 7.3m in 2003.    (it did hold a better 58% though...)  franchise peak in terms of dollars with just under 20m.

T2 did 2.4m back in the day but it was a different time a different place... it went on to make over 14m.  Peak of attendance for the franchise.

T1 did a total of 2.7m (no opening weekend info) but that was in the 80's ....

In this context this is a horrible opening... looks to be about 4.5m OW (5.2m including wednesday)...   if it has franchise legs similar to that of T3 & TS then it will be lucky to cross 12m.  Let's hope it holds up better than especially TS and can better that films 15m total.

Look to the skies people.

At 5:31pm AEST, the ISS, which looks like a fairly bright, moving star, will appear low in the north-western horizon. It will rise and pass Jupiter first and then journey past Venus at 5:34pm.

Around an hour from now in Sydney. Looks like it might be clear enough.
