NBR typically goes mainstream, right? That TM got director but not picture is interesting. I think that actually could foreshadow Oscar sentiment. Nice to see the adaptation acknowledged.

I saw 70 movies in 2015, sad year. Many disappointments and bad things. I keep Sicario, The Gift, The Voice, Crimson Peak. Not yet seen Steve Jobs.

Nah, they're not really populist, A Most Violent Year was last year's winner.

It really shouldn't be, but I think the only way it misses now is if SW really hits a home run and can overtake it as the top sci-fi pick. Even then, they would probably still nom both.

Yes, barring a miracle in Japan, The Martian will fall short of Interstellar due to comparative weakness in China. Of course, you could tell your friend that you need to wait for that Japanese launch which will give him two months to forget about the bet.
