McQueen's best. Definitely self-consciously arty in spots, but nevertheless powerful. Striking cinematography and a great Fassbender performance from before he broke out in Inglourious Basterds. The 17-minute dialogue scene with him and Liam Cunningham is just a beautiful piece of acting and filmmaking.

A tough, and I mean tough, but brilliant film. Wouldnt watch it again but I'm really glad I saw it.

Its so unsettling, yet so visceral and gripping. Its a hard watch but a movie everyone should. The movie is just done so well really in all honestly there is only one dialogue scene and its perfectly placed smack dab in the middle of the film and lasts 25 minutes.

This and Audition are the two movies that were so horrible to watch that I nearly turned them off. I mean Jesus, the poop and the beatings and the spontanious cavity search and, obviously, a guy starving to death .. hard work, this movie.

The rest is kinda average at best.
