Boxx93
TF3 did pretty badly... so how much will TF4 do? 5M? That is because in 2011 Paramount was having trouble getting the revenues from the country so they decided to stop showing their movies in Venezuela witch affected the release of Transformers 3, Captain America and Cowboys and Aliens. The problem was not resolved until October of the same year that Transformers 3 finally came out, then Cowboy came in December and Captain America 1 in January 2012. But it was already too late because there was no confirmation at the time from any reliable source that Paramount was gonna show their movies here ever again, so people just started pirating the movies or just wait for the official pirated Blu Ray and watch it at home and that affected the final gross Transformers 3, Cowboys and Cap 1. Boxx93
Movies coming up this weekend: Planes: Fire and Rescue The first Planes opened in first place last year with $641,367 for a total of $4,758,012. With the Summer vacations going on I can see an opening of $850k and a $5,6m total Libertador (Local Movie): A very highly anticipated movie about our national hero Simon Bolivar who liberated Venezuela and four other South American nations (Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador) played by the venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez as the titular character. The cast includes Danny Huston, Gary Lewis, Iwan Rheon (Yes, the Iwan Rhoen who plays Ramsey Snow in Game Of Thrones ) Maria Valverde, Juana Acosta among great others. This is a co-production between Spain and Venezuela and it has a budget of $50,000,000. The most expensive and most ambitious south american cinematic production ever made. If my theatre where the movie was playing is any indication, this is going to score big numbers on opening weekend. But I am not so sure because local movies are more about legs than opening weekend so I guess somewhere between $800k and $1m. Not going to guess the total because the legs for local movies are truly unpredictable but I have hopes because its a really darn good movie. Here is the trailer for the movie:

Boxx93
Well, Libertador did not take the number one spot as some people where expecting given the massive hype surrounding it but looking at the admissions and twitter response to the movie it was very close. The presence of Edgar Ramirez playing Simon Bolivar and the high production values worthy of a Hollywood movie is the main drive of Libertador and it should have very strong legs (like all local movies do) for the weeks to come in this summer holiday season. How To Train Your Dragon 2 kept the number one spot in admissions (I am sure in dollars as well because of the 3D prices). The staying power of this movie can be attributed to the combination of Summer Vacations and healthy Word of Mouth, a killer combo for any animated movie in this market. It still on pace to dethrone Days of Future Past In total gross. Planes: Fire and Rescue turned out to be the big shock of the weekend... and yet not so shocking at the same time. Despite the great BO the first Planes had in Venezuela, it had very little competition at the time, both Dragon 2 and Maleficent are still the hot ticket and Libertador took major part of the adult audience (Yes, there is adult appeal for animated movies in this market) and the quality of the movie judging from the GA response, critics reviews and box office revenues is not that very good and it should have been direct-to-video. Maybe it will have some decent legs but I dont expect anything great from Planes in this market (or any market for that matter). Boxx93
Wow, Libertador´s opening weekend is the biggest in the history of Venezuela for a local movie. With the kind of reaction I have been seeing on Twitter and the typical leggy legs for local movies are any indication, Libertador will bring Papita, Mani,Tostón down. How To Train Your Dragon 2 had a similar drop like X Men on its second weekend, maybe Libertador took away some of its adult audience but it should have a stronger hold next weekend because August is usually a strong month for this type for movies so Dragon 2 is stil on pace for a $10 million dollar final gross. Impressive holds from both Maleficent and X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Angelina Jolie´s movie oficially crossed the $20 million mark and Bryan Synger´s movie officially passed Captain America 2 in Venezuela. Blended is getting near $3 million, impressive. Planes 2 opened lower than the first one, something that never happens with animated family movies in this market but expected given the competition. Should still have summer legs until Guardians premieres on August 8. The heavy drop from Rio 2 was totally because Planes took screens from the movie but Fox should not complain, $15.6 million in this market is kind of a big deal. Overall a very good weekend.

rockNrollaDIM
INSANE run for Maleficent in Venezuela. LatAm is truly the new hot spot for Hollywood. And seriously, $50m budget for a local production? I'm glad to see that but surely it's not cost effective. How does that ever turn a profit save serious governmental incentives?
