Jake Gittes
After seeing Youth I doubt it will get acting nominations (and I don't believe it deserves any), though it wouldn't shock me if it does because veteran actors, etc. But I think they'll all get pushed out by the competition.
Impact
I do see Martian having at least 5 noms right now-would not surprise me if it won screenplay to be honest. (I see Joy taking home original)
Impact
Raiders should of won picture in 81-though at least Fire is a decent film unlike Gandhi in 1982 (which I actually don't know anyone who likes that film), the only upside was the acting of it, the film was though very long and boring.
MinaTakla
Yep I posted it here a few days ago but you guys didn't take it seriously until Poland hopped on the train. The Martian might as well be in a prime position, that is..if Joy, Revenant disappoint and if the academy won't reward a jurno movie Some of you are under-estimating The Martian.

Tau Ceti
Well, well, well. A few weeks ago the line was "sure, The Martian is nice and everything but all it's going to get is a nom for Sound Mixing." Now it seems to be in play for Picture, Director, and Actor, as well as the technical stuff. Still a long way to go, of course, but I'm not at all put off. A modest correction away from the art house in favour of more commercial work was bound to occur eventually.

Impact
Nice choices-though I do see Martian winning more then 2 if it wins director. Joy I could see winning screenplay. Of course song is one cat that who knows what it will go to.

Tau Ceti
When was the last time a director took home Best Picture and/or Best Director in back-to-back years? I haven't peeked at Wikipedia so I honestly don't know. I remember when Hanks did it for Best Actor in the early '90s it was a huge deal precisely because it was so rare. That's a long way of saying that I don't think Iñárritu is going to take the big haul two years running. I don't think the man is capable of making a bad film and I'm absolutely looking forward to The Revenant but the Academy (understandably) likes to spread out their winners. The Revenant will need an extra special reception if it's going to be the favourite for the top prizes beyond DiCaprio. I think that leaves Scott favoured for Best Director (he's 77 and has never won that prize, remember). Best Picture still seems wide open to me. We'll have to see which, if any, of the small movies being touted now breaks out in November and December.
Impact
In 1949/1950, the only other time was in 1940/1941 with John Ford!

Jake Gittes
The Martian winning the big two would be a joke.

Yawn. 11 hours ago, TStechnij said: It isn't realistic either. If Joy and The Revenant falter The Big Short and Spotlight will come and save us. I think its highly unlikely they'd give BP or BD to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu 2 years in a row.
Jake Gittes
Well I haven't seen Spotlight so I wouldn't know. But The Martian is basically very well-executed light entertainment. It doesn't have more ambition than that, doesn't really care about interesting themes, isn't in any way innovative visually, it isn't much of an acting or writing showcase, it doesn't resurrect a dead genre like Gladiator (whose win for Best Picture I'm actually pretty cool with). Which is all fine because the movie succeeds at what it wants to do. But I don't see anything award-worthy there. I'm surprised it's even supposed to be a serious contender for nominations. Even as far as entertainment goes, Mad Max already has it beat in every department. Star Wars might, too.
