It has just occurred to me Avatar ($2.78b) made more than in 2009 than last years #1 Marvel13:Cap3 and #2 Rooge1 COMBINED!

So what. The sum of AOU and TFA is more than Avatar. It's not fair to use spinoffs.

So was AOU, my point being that since Avatar, Age Of Ultron and The Force Awakens are part of the main saga it's more fair to compare them instead of the spinoffs, despite their impressive efforts. Rogue One and Civil War weren't meant to reach the heights of the gargantuan predecessors ($1.4B and $2B)

I know this is the franchise thread, but what I was getting at that was the #1 and #2 of 2016 combined was less than Avatar.

 

edit: Actually Avatar beat #1 and #2 combined every year since it's release, except 2015 with TFA and JW. Damn! Avatar made a LOT of money.

I just checked and there is only one showing at my local cinema next week, then it's gone... John Wick 2 that is.

I plan on seeing both Lego Batman and John Wick Chapter 2 on Friday. It wouldn't surprise if JWC2 broke out this weekend.

The Collider people were talking about Matt Reeves still being the #1 choice to direct.    I so hope that happens.
