It was like a terrible live TV production.

If a live tv production ever pull those long take camera movement that Spielberg blocking with those choreography that felt easy I would be really impressed (but as impressive as they were, the almost felt from time to time used because they didn't had time to do it otherwise and just because they became so good at doing it).

There is not many movie further away than a live SNL sketch / live 30 rock episode than The Post, that group craft ability specially camera movement and group of actor blocking on display was quite high imo.

The "TV production" look had more to do with the artificiality of the sets and lighting. Spielberg's immense talent for movement and blocking can never be denied.

Too manipulative with not enough context on certain points to try to get to it's attempted message, it was made in 9 months and it really shows. Overall it's a decent 7/10 but it's uh very flawed.

Not nearly the snoozer I thought it would be, but also nothing more than I expected given the people involved. It’s efficient.

Streep is absolutely amazing in that phone call scene; probably the moment that earned her the nomination.

The Post is an exhilarating piece for acting and directing. Spielberg hasn't been this tight in years, kinetically stringing along scenes so you're always never bored and incredibly intrigued. Hanks and Streep give some of their best performances in years and the entire ensemble is very impressive. Kuminski's cinematography is insane in its constant movement, always making the dullest locations come alive. The script though is a tad on the nose; it's very obvious this is a first-time writer. Paulson is both wasted and miscast; the age gap between her and Hanks is insulting and that role has absolutely nothing to it. Still, The Post is exciting filmmaking from one of the biggest filmmakers and two of the greatest actors working today, along with a slew of character actors who make (nearly) every moment exquisite to watch. A-
