That's how overall unimpressive his filmography the past 20 years (despite winning an Oscar over that time) is.

WittyUsername
I feel like “method acting” didn’t truly become a toxic term until Jared Leto.

I feel like we'd get stories of actors being a menace because of it every once in a while but I agree the current stigma, at least among people my age, definitely started with the Suicide Squad mess. Highly publicized grossness. Even other actors reportedly being assholes never held a candle to sending dead rats to coworkers, even if it turned out to not be true the majority of people don't know that and that was all part of the narrative. Method acting never recovered. 1

It seems like in the past, method actors were generally seen as these quirky misunderstood geniuses, but ever since Jared Leto’s “stories” about playing the Joker, they've been seen as insufferable and pretentious pricks. Even Joaquin Phoenix is starting to be seen in that light.
