You’re being sarcastic but don’t the majority of marketing teams for blockbusters release teasers and stuff well over five/six months in advance, even for things that seem like slam dunks?

They do, but treating a slightly shorter window so dramatically seems absurd to me. If the movie is well-received, I don't see why it can't succeed even with a comparatively late marketing launch. Avatar didn't properly kick off its promotion until August and didn't put out an effective trailer until late October, it still did okay.

I wouldn’t say “slightly.” And Avatar is basically the world’s biggest exception on every front. James Cameron and Avatar are just a whole different beast. Ridley Scott is no Cameron.

4 months or less is not *slightly* shorter, much shorter than normal window in fact. Avatar was just an exception and had an excuse about finishing visual effects since most of it was fully CGI. Gladiator doesn't have this excuse, the only reason Paramount starts marketing it as late as possible is because they are well aware it's a dud and huge money loser already, that's why they skimp on its promo.

Bad Boys 4 had their first and only trailer less than three months before release, and it's about to gross on par with the last movie. A late ad campaign means nothing, and we would all be better off if we all recognized that.

Bad Boys didn't cost well over 300 mln, or any other movies in question, movies with giant budgets don't have very late marketing campaigns unless they are not good. Late campaign meant something for Aquaman 2 because everyone knew it was a dud at that point and WB started marketing it extremely late because of that.

Most marketing campaigns really haven’t gotten that short, and the ones that do typically have specific reasons (for example, Bad Boys and the caginess around Will Smith in the industry). What sets this apart is that they are marketing it, just not to the audience. Even that Red One movie that’s rumored to be a hot mess is getting a trailer tomorrow.

Bad Boys finished production very close to its release date, that's the only reason Sony started marketing it that late, they were still shooting it less than 2 months before its release, kinda similar situation to Lethal Weapon 4.

Or maybe they want to drop a trailer for a anticipated R rated movie in front of maybe the biggest anticipated R rated movie of the year. But no let's go with the Movie is in trouble and they are hiding it narrative.  And yeah maybe the movie does stink. Modern Day Ridley Scott is not trustworthy at all.  But once again Studio's don''t care  what Rando's on a BO Forum, think or say,  that 99.9 of the GA does not  know exists.

Jeez you guys, listen to Eric here please. He's 100% right. Starting an ad campaign for an adult-driven R-rated action drama in the middle of summer when it's not even coming out until Thanksgiving is NOT a red flag. This isn't some fan-driven Star Wars/MCU movie. It's freaking Gladiator.

(btw Eric, agree with you 100% babes <3)

That's what they want you to think, but in reality Gladiator audience is the exact opposite of Deadpool audience. One is essential boomer/dad movie and the other one is zoomer movie with R rating, the same audience as Ant-Man or Spider-Man, MCU target audience doesn't care about Gladiator.

I hope those of you who actually do intend to write this off now aren't going to continue to waste time and space in this thread annoying us about it

Ha Ha that's a good one. People around here never go and on about movies they claim they are writing off like at all.....

DP3 is a 4-quad blockbuster, that appeals to everyone. Also, it is laughable to characterize movies like Spiderman as "zoomer movies". It is guaranteed there is at least some overlap between DP3 and Gladiator 2 audience.
