I think most people interested in seeing The Color Purple will be at least somewhat familiar with it already, but this preview is really glossing over how heavy the story gets in parts.

They want this to do better (much better, probably) at the box office than West Side Story '21 and the other Broadway adaptation nonstarters of the past few years have fared. Luckily this is one of the least competitive Christmas seasons at the multiplex in a while.

Deceptive advertising can lead to bad Cinemascores/word of mouth. Again, I think most going into it will have an idea what to expect from the book/other adaptations, plus the ratings info (though it often gets ignored). But I can picture some teen Halle Bailey fans  seeing it for her and receiving quite the shock...

This movie is going to be soo good. I wonder if Oprah is allowed to promote it like Nolan was able to promote Oppenheimer

Oprah's only a producer on the movie so she'll be free to do promo for it (with the cast joining in if the strike is over by December).

Forgot about this one.

Hollywood must be running out of ideas for black trauma films if we’re remaking old ones now.

I guess the next ones up are 12 years a slave, green book, precious, fences, and moonlight?

Yeah because every black trams movie that comes out is a remake.

This isn’t a remake. The Color Purple was a novel and Steven Spielberg directed a dramatic adaptation of the film and Oprah produced a musical adaptation of the book.

The movie Speilberg created was only half true to the novel and left out many important events from the book.
