Heretic
Excellent opening for Napoleon, but don’t expect legs to be great with very mixed to negative WOM. Decent hold for THG, hope it can remain strong through December and the Christmas period. Wish’s opening is okay, not great but also not terrible. I’d say it could probably leg it out to a good total but with Wonka on the way and the mixed reception, I’m doubtful.

UKBoxOffice
Beyonce probably had more shows on Saturday if anything. The fans just came day 1 I guess. I think it did very poorly outside of big cities as well. Animal was £245k on Saturday.

Her fanbase isn’t as rabid or as young as Taylor Swift’s. Plus Renaissance was rated 15 which will have limited it somewhat. It was completely dead around me, so I’m not surprised it’s dropped like a stone after opening night.

I think it could have done better if it was just a concert movie..

I don’t really think it would’ve really. Concert movies in general don’t usually do amazing numbers, the Taylor Swift one was an anomaly driven by her fans who are evidently more engaged in supporting her every move, its definitely not the norm or what we should expect from every concert movie.

JB did well too. I believe it depends on the hype that artists have. Do you think someone like Adele or Rihanna can do TS numbers?

Heretic
Hunger Games is doing well, could get close to the £20m mark in the end if it continues to hold well over the next few weeks. Wish might barely make it past £10m. Wonka should be interesting this weekend. I remember earlier this year some were expecting this to be a £50m+ grosser. I highly doubt this will happen but expecting a decent opening, maybe around £5m or so (almost identical to Paddington 2014 opening) and good legs over Christmas. It’ll definitely take advantage of there not being much else on offer for families right now.
Krissykins
Beyoncé making less than £100k more than Andre Rieu (Sat & Sun only) is a surprise despite all the promotion. It’s performing just like many other concert films. Edited December 4, 2023 by Krissykins
