The Critic £98k Great hold for Beetlejuice especially considering how the weather was yesterday compared to last Friday. Expected a bit more here from Speak No Evil with McAvoy as the lead ngl. He's been fairly absent from theatrical film roles since the pandemic though, dunno if that's hurt his appeal.

UKBoxOffice
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice remains at No.1 with £4.2m, dropping 42% from its opening weekend. Tim Burton’s sequel has a current total of £14.3m, the highest-grossing comedy release of the year so far ahead of Wicked Little Letters (£9.6m) and Mean Girls (£9.2m). Burton’s latest is currently his fifth-biggest release, above Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children (£12.2m) and behind Planet Of The Apes (£17.0m). Speak No Evil is the highest new opener this weekend, debuting at No.2 with £1.4m including Thursday previews. This is the third-highest horror opening of the year, above the likes of Longlegs (£1.3m) and Trap (£1.1m), and behind only sequels A Quiet Place: Day One (£2.9m) and Alien: Romulus (£3.7m). James Watkins’ fourth feature achieved 4 stars in our PostTrak exit poll, along with an 86% Total Positive rating. The horror genre was the main draw for audiences (37%), followed by lead actor James McAvoy (25%) whose films have grossed over £260m in total. Another new release follows, with Lee opening at No.3 with £704k including previews. Ellen Kuras’ directorial debut gained 4.5 stars and an 88% Total Positive rating in our PostTrak poll, with the subject matter/plot (46%) and the genre/type of film (33%) the main reasons for watching the film. Kate Winslet was the attraction for 21% of the audience; she stars in the eleventh- and twelfth-highest grossing films of all time: Titanic (£80.2m) and Avatar: The Way Of Water (£77.3m) both from James Cameron. A re-release of Prima Facie – NT Live 2022 is at No.4 with £553k, bringing its reissue total up to £1.4m. Jodie Comer’s one-woman play is still the highest-grossing theatre release of all time with £5.4m on its original release, and behind only Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (£12.2m) among Event Cinema releases (excluding Secret Cinema). Despicable Me 4 remains at No.5 in its tenth week of release with £389k, and has the smallest drop of the Top 10 at -29%. Illumination’s sequel is currently up to £46.2m, edging closer to its predecessors Despicable Me 2 (£47.5m) and Despicable Me 3 (£47.8m). Deadpool & Wolverine is at No.6 with £359k, dropping 46% in its eighth weekend. Shawn Levy’s sequel has a cume of £56.6m, overtaking the lifetime of The Dark Knight Rises (£56.4m) and just behind Todd Phillips’ Joker (£58.2m). Justin Baldoni’s It Ends With Us drops 51% in week six to chart at No.7 with £326k. The romantic drama has grossed £20.8m in total, making it the seventh-highest 2024 release above Bob Marley: One Love (£17.1m) and just behind Migration (£21.3m). British thriller The Critic opens at No.8 with £326k, and will place at No.7 in the official chart with £351k including previews. In our PostTrak exit survey, the film achieved 3.5 stars and an 81% Total Positive rating, which rises to 88% among men. Over 40% of attendees were aged 35+ and the film should do strong midweek business. Two Disney sequels close the chart, with Alien: Romulus at No.9 with £268k and Inside Out 2 at No.10 with £154k. The overall box office is down 18% from last weekend, and up 21% on the equivalent weekend in 2023 when A Haunting In Venice opened at No.1 with £2.1m. Year-to-date, 2024 is now running 11% behind the same period in 2023, closing the gap a little each week. This week we have two new horror releases in Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance (MUBI) and JT Mollner’s Strange Darling (Icon) releasing on Friday, along with the animated sequel 200% Wolf (Signature). Saturday will also mark Batman Day with Park Circus bringing back Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and The Batman to cinemas.

I wonder if Beetlejuice Beetlejuice can beat Dumbo (£25.1m) to become the highest grossing Burton film featuring Keaton? It's maintaining a good pace ahead of it right now. Krissykins
Great weekend at the box office then! Excellent hold for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, that 12A rating was important. Solid start for Lee, which I imagine will do very well midweek. The Critic too, probably.
Krissykins
Some release date changes too. Everything has moved away from both Gladiator and Wicked (Conclave, Piece by Piece and Red One), so each have their own weekend to themselves now. Baby Girl moved to January. The Front Room comes out October 25th and Heretic November 1st
