Heretic
I think DM2's gonna have a huge weekend. Pre-sales are looking strong, especially for Saturday afternoon.

Heretic
Wouldn't be surprised if DM2 did over £6m this weekend. It comes out properly today, and usually animated films don't do very well on Friday's when schools are still in, but DM2 is packed, especially this evening and tonight. Shows this isn't just a kids film at all.
Heretic
May was very big. 15,607,698 admissions, compared to 13,439,811 in 2012. Very narrowly beaten by May 2007 and 2009 with 100k more admissions for both those years. June 2013 should be the biggest since at least 2004 I think. http://www.cinemauk.org.uk/facts-and-figures/admissions/monthly-uk-cinema-admissions-2005-2012/ Edited June 28, 2013 by Heretic

Olive
So 10M+ with previews?
Heretic
Wow. Probably around £7m this weekend, and near £12m with previews. That's absolutely gigantic.
Heretic
That's gonna be about $18m! Bigger than MoS. Sure enough sign I think for an explosion in the US, too.
Olive
UK & Ireland - Opened #1 with big $3.5M at 542 dates and 49% market share. This is 3x bigger than the opening day of Despicable Me. The total including last week’s previews is $11M (£7.2M). If estimates continue in the same patterns, DM2will break the record as Universal’s biggest opening weekend with previews in that market.
Heretic
That's £2.3m, and Friday was a school day. At this rate, it's gonna wind up with close $19-20m for the opening + previews. I thought it'd be big, but this is enormous. Edited June 29, 2013 by Heretic

Heretic
Doubt even MU will be able to beat this now. For an animation, this is unprecedented.
PhilipJ2001
it'll be interesting to see if it follows the same kind of pattern in the US
