  Fri 4 29 1262 3709 4971 0.2538 2

Intreresting that Calgary almost doubled their amountof shows for Thursday. Overall 1 week out looking between 20 to almost 30 percent sold

Can you add comps to 2022 releases as you did track them. Even at ballpark dates that will provide greater perspective.

Deadpool Wolverine

Toronto and Montreal

Thurs July 25 Fri July 26 (T-5)

    # theatre #show Seats Sold Seats Rem Ttl seat Percent Added shows
Toronto Thurs 4 51 3292 9197 12489 0.2635 10

  Fri 4 40 2091 7126 9217 0.2268 1

Okay the seats added......I dont know if the whole IT meltdown affected Cineplex or what....but I was seeing strange things like solme theatres which had a lot more seats sold before (in Toronto) suddenly their numbers dropped. Not all of them, maybe 3 or 4 shows. Also the numbers I was getting adding (or removing?) shows....something seemed wonky. Otherwise the numbers seem to be progressing, but just a little bit of transparency here.

Anyone else doing Canada stuff encounter wonky stuff post IT stuff?

It loos like you're seeing similar to what I'm seeing. Limited locations but strong sales. I'm surprised they didn't distribute more widely.

said cities above seem to get a bit odd, seems like when one of them has 4 theatres, the other only will have 2. I do wonder if theres some demographics here where the cities are. Im thinking strong Sales are the Alien devotees who love the franchise, so theyre putting down early, while others are taking a kind of wait and see approach. Distrubution-honestly I never can figure the rationale from film to film sometimes up here lol

Thinking right now people are A either waiting for more Imax and prestige screens to come up later in week, or B after Deadpool Wolverine might be thats what many spent their money on.

Have to also think theres a wait and see from Alien fans in regards to WOM as to how this received before putting down some money.

Alien Romulus

Toronto and Montreal Canada

Thurs Aug 15 Fri Aug 16 (t-4)

    # theatre #show Seats Sold Seats Rem Ttl seat Percent Added shows
Toronto Thurs 4 20 552 4450 5002 0.1103 3
  Fri 4 23 422 4939 5361 0.0787

Montreal Thurs 2 9 413 2332 2745 0.1504
  Fri 1 4 184 1096 1280 0.1437

Montreal only having 13 showings over two days might lend to its higher percentage a bit. Overall, mild movement, mind you Montreal is generally a bit quieter anyway. Again I think its a wait and see attitude, even Alien fans might be waiting till reviews actually drop and or wom.  I think the bigger thing with Romulus is does it gain traction over the next couple of weekends.

Wed Previews always kind of tricky as its 1 show per theatre so the percents can be a little interesting-still definitely good showings for those days, Thurs and Fri seem quieter.

Forgot about the TUESDAY previews.....sigh....

Again Wed being popular, rather quiet a week out. Can be bizzaro land sometimes. Whether its lack of interest or people having attended Wolvie and Deadpool, hard to say, a week out I expected more. Heck in Toronto one of the main theatres doesnt even have tickets up for presale yet. Wild.

If you're referring to Scotiabank, they're pretty much shut down for TIFF, so they're not screening it. That's probably throwing off numbers in general for downtown Toronto theatres.

Saw the following article, about Cineplex seeing the rise of international cinema helping fill the gap in movie going. I know @charlie Jatinderhas put out stats about how much of the Canadian market is south Asian films these days. The numbers here align to that as well, and appear to be growing.

However, with studios finally filling out the release calendar, it'll be interesting to see if the international releases continue to play a prominent role in Canadian theatres. I'm guessing yes. Demand isn't slowing.

Yeah, Indian films are now making closer to 10% of the Canadian box office, which is kind of insane.

However some distributors claim that programmers at times show racism while allotting shows to Indian films, which seems like just a bad business on their part.
