Fullbuster
Preliminary yealy report by kinobusiness 46 mln RUB yearly box office vs 43.56 mln in 2013 +5.62% 1243.6 mln yearly box office vs 1371.7 mln in 2013 -9.3% 190.2 mln admissions vs 187.3 mln +1.55% Local market share 17% +5.6% in RUB and -9.3% in dollars, it's quite brutal , around +10% in ticket prices from what I can see. The growth in admissions is pretty low though..That means the growth in RUB comes from higher prices. With The Avengers 2, Cindrella, 50 Shades of Gray, Star Wars VII, Jurassic World and so on 200 million admissions could be reached next year Let's hope the economic crisis in Russia won't kill this

Denizzo
John Wick 9 mln RUB or $160k. Had some potential here but local distributor totally destroyed it. DOA. It's true. Many of the theaters in our town don't have JW in their showtimes at all. In the others, it's only represented by one or two sessions per day, closer to midnight. And it's weird, because it is well known that the movies with the name of Keanu Reeves on the poster always do a big money in our country. Just like «47 ronin» did it in the last year, for example. Fullbuster
RUSSIA 2014 Russia was mired in political turmoil this year, largely stemming from the annexation of Crimea which resulted in the controversial arrest of at least one Ukrainian filmmaker. It also led to some rejiggering of business plans for the studios while talent was not encouraged to travel there for a stint. But it wasn’t the politics that dented box office — it was the ruble. The currency’s devaluation led to a dollar discrepancy on Hollywood grosses of about $107M through December 16 this year versus the same period in 2013; that’s a drop of about 8.4%. Is there hope for 2015? One distribution executive says, “It’s still a very robust market, but we’ve lost 30% in exchange in the past two to three months alone.” Another adds, “It’s very rare to have currency swings of that magnitude in a market of that magnitude.” As one of the biggest growth areas over the past several years, Hollywood would not want to see this trend continue. It’s fast-burn, but execs like Russia because p&a is low which yields a great margin. “If you gross $20 million, you take home $7 million net. Russia is a pure play,” says an international exec. It’s also a big consumer of what the studios put out — audiences love action, 3D and big spectacle — and is often among the top ex-U.S. or China markets for Hollywood. There is still local currency growth while screens are also going up, but there is also the threat that it is becoming more mature. Some believe things will get better. A proposed cap on Hollywood films was shot down in the Duma late this year after President Vladimir Putin called the idea for imposing restrictions on foreign films wrong. Putin is seen by some in Hollywood as a supporter, or at least neutral. Surprisingly, the Russian entry for the Foreign Language Academy Award is a film that is largely critical of the current state of affairs in Russia. Leviathan is a contemporary look at corruption at the state level — it’s also on the Oscar shortlist. The local industry failed to produce a hit à la last year’s blockbuster Stalingrad, although Universal found success with the English-language Viy 3D ($34M) and this past weekend saw Timur Bekmambetov return to directing at home with hit comedy Yolki 1914 ($4.2M). Coming next month is the sequel to 2012’s local animation, The Snow Queen, which banked about $8M that year. juni78ukr
Today is the last day of holidays. The winner is Seventh Son. Estimated total including Sunday 905-910 mln RUB. $16.1-16.2 mln. Among foreign markets only China can beat that. The second place goes to Russian animated movie. Very popular and cheap franchise from local animation studio. They make a movie every year always for New Year holidays. A kind of tradition. Last three movies grossed between 650-950 mln RUB. This one will finish with 850-900 mln RUB. 2nd best final gross, $15-16 mln. The third place goes to Exodus. Estimated total including Sunday 780 mln RUB or 13.8 mln. Started strong but dropped fast. Night at the Museum 3 will have 305 mln RUB or $5.4 mln OW. 600-650 mln RUB final gross. John Wick totally bombed here. Local distributor screwed up everything. 92 mln RUB or $1.64 mln in 11days. Won't gross much after that. Wide previews for Big Eyes this weekend. Only 11-12 mln RUB or 200-210k. Finally Hobbit will have 1650 mln including Sunday. $30.4 mln by opening weekend exchange rates. №4 all-time.
