el sid
3 hours ago, George Parr said: It's kind of funny, the new Terence Hill movie on its own will probably not interest many people at all, but combine it with a visit from Terence Hill himself and the roof blows off. I guess the chance to actually see a legendary actor / childhood hero is too unique to ignore. Reminds of the time when Bud Spencer visited bookshops to present his autobiography, you had people queueing up ten hours before he was supposed to arrive, clogging the whole area. I think in Berlin they even hadto shut things down because there were way too many people around, and they also ran out of books, even though they had more than 1000+ at the store. And this wasn't the usual hype-crowd, it was grown men and women of all ages, from the entire social spectrum. *Sigh* the good old days Yes, next stop or one of the next stops of Terence Hill is mathäser in Munich on Sunday. Unfortunately all seats were taken before I noticed the visit. Can only wait in or in front of the theatre . I saw a docu about a fan meeting in Leipzig a few years ago and was surprised how many very young people showed up. These younger fans who learned about the Bud Spencer/Terence Hill films on TV combined with moviegoers from all/former decades just results in a large name recognition and popularity in Germany. @Omni Don't worry already. The upcoming weekend should be very good for this film. Mark_G predicts an increase of 30% so far.
IndustriousAngel
I think with weather turning rainy we should see some excellent holds and even increases despite the many openers. (Thursday was still kinda lousy BO-wise, though - rain seems to come a bit late)

HalloFromGermany
Great hold for amlost all films, the bad weather really did its job. Sauerkrautkoma (a local bavarian movie) with fantastic numbers, wonder how much it can do in its run. MI:6 will cross the million mark this week - hope it'll have great legs here in Germany. Maybe it can pass MI:3 and MI:5 in admission. MI => 3.3 million MI:2 => 4.4 million MI:3 => 1.2 million MI:4 => 1.6 million MI:5 => 1.4 million

Other openers were fine but the story this weekend were the holdovers, many of them with increases. Strongest PTA once more for Sauerkrautkoma which is leading last year’s Grießnockerlaffäre by over 100k at the same point in its run – will become the strongest release for this franchise for sure and has a tiny chance at 1mil total. Btw, in Austria, the Bavarian comedy was #1 this weekend for the 3rd time! Next weekend: The biggest new release will be The Spy Who Dumped Me, which should win the weekend even if not by that much. Weather conditions will be better so expect harsh drops for many releases, however Thursday (which is included in Germany’s weekend numbers) looks rainier so the openers might have very strong opening days. el sid
The Thursday estimates for the whole country: The new releases: The Spy Who Dumped Me/Bad Spies (379): 6.5k Safari – Match Me If You Can (a German Comedy, 515): 6k Asphaltgorillas (a German Comedy Drama): 3.5k Grüner wird’s nicht, sagte der Gärtner und flog davon (a German Comedy Drama, 219): 3.5k The Children Act (110): 3k Käpt'n Sharky (a German animation film, 318): ?k Mostly very nice holds: The Equalizer 2: 20k (actuals last Thursday 20k) – would be great and last week the estimate was very close to the actual number Sauerkrautkoma: 14k (16k) – very good Mission: Impossible - Fallout: 13k (14k) - also Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again: 10.5k (15k) BlacKkKlansman: 6.5k (6.3k) – an increase as in the South-West report below Gundermann: 4k (7.5k) Slender Man: 3.5k (8k) HT3: a bit over 1k evening only (estimated under 1k evening only) And the South-West report (with holidays): Still not much buzz around the new releases also in this report: The Spy Who Dumped Me leads with 313 admissions in the selected theaters followed by Asphaltgorillas with 128, 109 for The Children Act, meager 90 for Safari, no number for Grüner wird’s nicht. The holds look quite good here too, some movies even increased: Equalizer2 602 (last Thursday 731), M: I6 330 (458), Mamma Mia2 383 (401), Sauerkrautkoma 327 (288), Slender Man 176 (373), The Meg 169 (282), and nice also for BlacKkKlansman with 166 (112). Mark_G sees 100k admissions for Safari, 75k for The Spy Who Dumped Me and 50k for Grüner wird’s nicht. The rest of the new releases will probably stay under 50k admissions. The holds should be mixed: Only -25% for BlacKkKlansman but due to the new competition more hefty drops for the family films: HT3 -40%, Christopher Robin -50%. School holidays in 28% of the republic. The weather is predicted to become quite good in the north but pretty bad and cold in the south. Edited August 30, 2018 by el sid

Next weekend: StoneAge/Wolf drama Alpha and The Nun are the big openers, besides domestic teen comedy Das schönste Mädchen der Welt. With Slender Man not drawing much attention, maybe The Nun can profit from little competition and become #1.
