I think "It" (2017) had a boost over the weekend because the holiday of September 7th (Independence of Brazil) was on a Thursday. This year the same holiday was on Saturday...
But I found it a little disappointing too.

Brazil is a relatively mature market, it doesnt experience such crazy market growth. However, the cinema industry only "matured" (or at least hit a state of relatively steady progression) not more than 10 years ago, it makes sense therefore that all the top movies are recent. Also inflation has been unable to offset ER depreciation, so the market hasnt grown over the last 10 years in dollar terms (again, partly because Brazil is not China and is far a more established market). Its far from guaranteed that the top movies will be so easily supplanted, it depends on the upcoming slate and in the next 2 years I think its hardly a given that we'll see such turnover in the top 10

It'll depend on Brazil's economic fortunes first and foremost.

 

Brazil is now in a situation when it's no longer an "emerging economy" because its growth is inferior to the global growth and also under where it should be given its standards of living. If things stay as they are expect a stagnant market or at best a slow growth. Let's remind 2018 was the first year of decline of the movie market there since the mid-2000s.

 

Let's say what happens but the strong enthusiasm from 2012, when I created this thread, is gone for now.
