R$28.6M were sold on the box office with 1.3M tickets sold, up 43% from last weekend.

KFP4 managed the second best opening of the year, the best animated opening since Spiderverse 2 and the best Dreamworks opening since How to Train Your Dragon 3. Also the best opening from the franchise in box office, in admissions is down from the last two. The lack of big animated movies until Garfield in may should help a lot, but please don't expect the same insane legs of Puss in Boots 2.

Next, The Choosen almost than triple the total of the last one on just the opening, while Dune 2 have more than doubled the total from the first movie, with room for more. Outside the top 4 the drops were not kind and many of these movies will be on the way out the next weekend.

Talking about next weekend, it will release Godzila x Kong, Dream Scenario, Dois é Demais em Orlando, All to Play For, Black Bat, Dona Lures - O Filme and Jango no Exílio.

Good first day of pre-sales for Godzilla x Kong though not mind-blowing, a little better than Dune 2.

Outside of Skull Island, that made R$29M, the rest of the Monsterverse haven't really set the brazilian box office on fire (Fun fact, Dwayne Johnson's Rampage outsold every Godzilla movie in the country lol), it will be interesting to see if this is the movie to change that.

This weekend's screen count:

-GxK: >900 screens

-Dois é Demais em Orlando: 420 screens

-Mother's Instinct: 140 screens

-Dona Lurdes: 85 screens (Cinemark exclusive)

-Nada Será Como Antes: 40 screens

-Jango no Exílio: 8 screens

The holiday on friday might push Godzilla x Kong to a more mediocre opening day followed by a big boost on the second day. To add to this conclusion, the first day is having less screens compared to friday.

This is not a Spoiler for the movie, since its in the trailers: GodzillaxKong will take place partly in Brazil. Could that boost its numbers here or is that not really a factor?

It should and most likely will, Brazil LOVES representation on Hollywood movies. If anything I think they messed up for not using Rio more in the marketing. The marketing for Civil War for example is going all in about having Wagner Moura as the co-lead of the movie.

Godzilla x Kong, NATAL T-1

T-1 Cinemark: 6 showings, 1656  seats, 85 sold (5.13%)

T-1 Cinepolis: 9 showings, 1318 seats, 13 sold (0.9%)

T-1 Moviecom: 5 showings, 804 seats, 37 sold (4.6%)

T-1 Cineflix: 5 showings, 1342 seat, 85 sold (6.3%)

T-1 Total: 25 showings, 5120 seats, 220 sold (4.3%)

COMPS:

Dune 2: (58.8%) - R$940k

The Flash (47.7%) - R$1.01M

Transformers: RotB (145.6%) - R$1.07M

The Meg 2 (500%) - R$5.5M (Ok, ignore that one lol)

Slow final day for sure for GxK. Normal comps would put thursday around R$1M and a weekend around R$6.5M-8M. Back in the day Godzilla KotM opened with R$4.7M so despite good legs I remind you again that Monsterverse is not that big in Brazil. But then again, this might all be the holiday in friday messing up the opening day and yes, right now I am seeying some movement for friday. I wished I had better comps but unfortunately we didn't had a case of a big blockbuster opening on thursday with a holiday on friday. Right now better stick from what we have, that would be the realistic expectation.

Also due to the holiday the thursday number might not be tracked on friday as usual but I'll do my best to see if I can get anything.

Like I suspected, no numbers today, we will have to wait longer for any update from Brazil. What I can say though is that walk-ins yesterday and today have been quite good. I am pretty confident those ranges can be beaten.

R$31M was sold on the box office last weekend and 1.4M admissions, up 7%.

GxK did indeed beat the pessimistic pre-sales and had the best opening of the year and the best from the Monsterverse, meanwhile KFP4 had a great hold and beat 1M admissions already, while The Chosen passed half a million. More 'Chosen' releases have already been confirmed for brazilian theaters. This weekend had two local movies (Dois é Demais and Dona Lurdes) that had quite a few marketing push so they are probably not happy with their placement on the list. Also we had what I believe is the first time Perfect Days charts on the top 10 since its release.

Next weekend will release Arthur the King, Dream Scenario, The First Omen, Uma Família Feliz, The Good Mother and Musik.

On march, 7.5M tickets were sold and R$159.3M on the box office, up 28.3% from last year's march.

On the first quarter of 2024, the brazilian cinemas sold a total of R$517.8M on the box office and 26.8M tickets were sold, up 7.8% from the same period last year. Local movies represent 25% of the market share and compared to the box office last year, local movies are up a not even funny 1985.8%. And that is comparing the first quarter of this year to the whole last year!

R$25M and 1.2M tickets were sold on the period, down 20% from last weekend.

GxK and KFP4 had excelent holds and both are on the way to become the best selling from their franchises. The First Omen had the best opening from a horror this year, but still a far cry from the big horror openings from last year. Arthur the King opened low, totally expected.

Next weekend is a busy one with Ghostbusters, Evidências do Amor, 10 Lives, After Death, As Linhas da Minha Mão and Pearl Jam.

Garfield have been pushed closer and will now release on may 1st, almost a month before the US release.

Civil War's marketing is the most expensive ever from Diamond Films, A24's distributor in the country. It's really strong and its been treated as a big blockbuster.

(Will update the admissions totals later today)

R$22.6M were sold on the box office and 1M tickets, down 10% from last weekend.

Ghostbusters had a good multiplier on the weekend and ended on the higher end after the thursday number. The opening was R$700k above the previous movie, but still far from good as it was still half from what the 2016 version opened. GxK and KFP4 keep steady with great legs and First Omen is the best selling horror this year (so far, a bad year for the genre).

Next weekend releases Civil War, Jorge da Capadocia, Abigail, The Green Border and Vidente por Acidente. It will be fun to follow how the first two will perform.
