And another question for guys from Brazil here. Why Paulo Coelho biopic bombed so hard?

Probably weak marketing, I had no idea this movie was going to be released. Plus, it's not like many people care about Paulo Coelho, he's actually seen as a mediocre writer around here.

Brazilian sources reported 13.34 mln R$. That would be 5.9 mln $.

But mojo reported only 5.68 mln. Can anyone explain the difference?

I posted stuff before about mojo and wrong data..I hadn't realised of late that Brazil is so far off. Before I continue one thing worth noting is the top films weekend/week by countries reports on mojo the majority DO NOT come from official reporting agencies, taking Australia as example neither Rentrak nor MPDAA (Official agency) give mojo anything they get Aus data from trolling web and/or source willing to give them a report on a country , maybe a figure on a film they got from a studio, This goes for majority countries.

Now with Brazil in my investigation so far trying to make heads or tails or what they have been doing , As Brazil back in March switch from Friday starts to Thursday so weekend BO became Thu-Sun instead of Fri-Sun, So I first thought maybe they are somehow only getting Fri-sun figures still, but its not even that when I look at various films Thursday is not the missing component from a weekend number (note mojo is under on everything, case in point TMNT, GOTG OW is under by $R 634k, Apes under by r500k)

The other thing is Exchange rates, now most of the country data  is in local and then gets converted to $us, It could be that where ever mojo gets Brazil data from they are most of the time getting it in $us and converting and it doesn't match local at all, however that doesn't seem to be the case with everything I've looked at so far, but I'd say this is the most likely conclusion what is happening most of the time(A lot of what I've written in other posts had to do with currency conversions)

for now this is the actual top 10 for weekend in Real(rounded) and along side is what mojo has(which in some case is close)

1-TMNT 13.338m/13.338m  (12.806m/12.806m)

2-GOTG 4.950m/32.334m (4.676m/31.898m)

3-Apes 3.636m/51.077m (3.491m/51.060m)

4-Vestido 3.212/9.229m (3.112m/8.890m)

5-AOE 704k/61.681m   (642k/61.540m)

6-Pilgrim 599k/699k (698k/698k)

7-Chef 623k/721k (616k/713k)

8-blended 582k/22.684m  (542k/22.812m)

9-TNJ 344k/344k (334k/334k)

10-TGBH 170k/4.820m (154k/4.867m)

11-HTTYD2 162k/54.476m (155k/55.366m) (thru we6 the cumes close(51.4 vs 51.5), but then in we7+ mojo cume jumps a lot example in we7 its became 53.3 vs 54.1 and mojos we7 in BRL was slighly less than actual , but the cume skyrockets, having said that in $us mojo cume is now about right so all is good in world :D )

JAPAN BOX OFFICE REVENUES

2007 : $1.69B

2009 : $2.2B

2010 : $2.52B

2011 : $2.26

2012 : $2.45B

2013 : $1.99B

Overall, the Japanese BO stagnated, and given the demographic trends it's unlikely to change. However it's still the third biggest BO market behind the USA and China, so it's not a market you should ignore.

Better numbers than expected for GOTG according to BOM : $14.1m instead of $13.8m :)

$20m is still reachable, please Brazil DO IT! :D

It's the end of the line for Dragon 2 with 72% decrease over the previous weekend, it won't pass TASM2 and Puss in Boots...But who cares? It more than doubled Dragon 1, not a mean feat :)

Is GOTG doing bad numbers in Brazil?

No,these numbers are good.GOTG is a new franchise with unknown characters so that's a good start. If we take the size of the market into account 14m in Brazil is like doing 28m in France, and given it will be around 20m at the end of its run that will be similar to 40m in France,so you can see it's doing well :)

Thor and Captain America became very popular after the success of the Avengers that grossed 64m there. Brazil was one of its biggest territories so Thor and Cap are particularly strong brands there,it was hard for GOTG to compete with them, the exchange rate and the very weak economy don't help.

GERMANY BOX OFFICE REVENUES

2007 : $1.04B

2009 : $1.36B

2010:  $1.22B

2011 : $1.33B

2012 : $1.35B

2013 : $1.36B

Germany is pretty interesting as a market because despite it is most populated (80m inhabitants) than France (66m) or the UK (64m) it's a smaller market, the third biggest in Europe. The market stagnated these last few years.

Russia's revenues reached $1.34B in 2013 so it could pass Germany this year, nothing is sure yet but it was expected to happen.

'Barack Obama' standing for Brazilian congress

In Brazil, where nicknames are everything, voters can now opt for a congressional candidate who goes by the name Barack Obama.

He is black, like the US president, and running for congress in elections on October 5 for the ruling Workers Party.

His real name is Claudio Henrique dos Anjos. A court has allowed the 45-year-old to run in the election with ballots that read "Barack Obama".

On his website, he goes by the longer name Claudio Henrique Barack Obama.

On Tuesday (local time, he formally presented his candidacy, and in the short time allotted him on television he launched the terse slogan "Vote for Barack Obama!"

Electoral laws in Brazil give candidates leeway to choose the name they want to go by in campaigns.

Here, people's nicknames are almost always more well-known than their real names. For instance, Edison Arantes do Nascimento is the football legend better known as Pele.
