Fullbuster
But would charity be enough to help the country? I think the biggest problem is that our economy isn't free enough and the current party (which has leftist tendencies) have support of the masses because of its social support programs. People think it's the government duty to grant everything they need and the way of achieving this is nationalizing companies. Among the recent protests, people were asking the government to fully nationalize Petrobras and public transport, and protesting against the privatization of Maracanã. They think buses and stadiums should be controled by the government, but they complain that taxes are too high. I don't think this will change soon because the current party is being seen as "not left enough" by lots of young people and the Socialist party is getting stronger, mainly in Rio. Anyway, this made me remember about a recent topic about students discounts. Students here pay only half the price of a movie ticket (and tickets for other type of "cultural events"), does that also happen in the US? Some people think it's wrong to obligate places to give the discount, but I saw many people in my Uni arguing that it's the government's duty to give easy access to culture. And all this discussion isn't even because they are considering to abolish this discount, it's just because they ruled that the discount should be given at least to "only" 40% of concert and sportes events tickets, and some people think 40% is not enough. I see, so Brazilians want more government but not taxes which go along with it...They're very similar to French people in some way. Still, it's a young country with a lot of potential, it's possible to do that for some time, maybe 2 decades..But in France it's less and less possible given our pitiful growth. Fullbuster
Today, Sony revealed that PlayStation 4 will cost a staggering R$3,999 in Brazil when it launches this November (R$ is the symbol for the Brazilian Real, that country’s currency). Based on current exchange rates, that’s equivalent to $1,849.85 (or £1,355.32, or €1,146.65, or ¥180,894.39). To put that cost into context, PlayStation 4 will launch in the US at $399.99, in the UK at £349, in mainland Europe at €399, and in Japan at ¥38,980. Indeed, in the United States specifically, PlayStation 4 is the cheapest PlayStation console yet when adjusted for inflation. Retail games in Brazil will launch at R$179, which, equivalent to $82.80, doesn’t suffer from a similar cost spike. PlayStation 3 launched in Brazil in 2010 at R$1,999, or $924.69, so a high price point isn't unprecedented. But PS4 seems to be bringing premium cost to a whole new level. Xbox One is launching in Brazil for $R2,199 – over a thousand US dollars – but still comes in far cheaper than PS4. http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/10/17/in-brazil-playstation-4-will-cost-over-1800 OMG :o It's not BO-related but I couldn't help quoting this, it's completely crazy, what the hell??????? I saw that, but from what Brazilians say no one actually buys them at those prices, they get it at the black market to avoid the crazy high prices. Brazil has really high taxes for importing these kinds of goods.

Brazil has really high taxes for importing these kinds of goods. Yeah, they're smart not buying them at such a shameful price, and I can see why Brazilian tourism to the USA is growing at such a fast pace -> They can buy a lot of things in the US, particularly high-tech gimmickss, and it's still very attractive despite plane travels. It's a living proof that protectionism is a bad thing for an economy, sadly an increasing part of people in France think it's a miracle drug for our economic woes...I'm embarassed at such ignorance! Goffe
Yep, Brazil is ridiculous. A few months ago, Sony said that would make deals with government to bring PS4 for R$1.000,00 (about $500-550), I think the negotiations failed... Yeah...Brazil -> much higher cost of living than in the US but much lower salaries. Not surprise the economy is slow with all of that. Goffe
Oh seriously? I just started to learn Portuguese as third foreign languages a month ago so I'm obviously weak. Can you say me what is the correct sentence? you could use "Thor 2 samba na cara dos filmes esta semana iiiiyaaaahhhh", "samba na cara...." is an expression used here. Or you could just delete the words "dança a" and it would express the same meaning. Note: "iiiiiyyyaaahh" is used by horsemen, totally different culture.
