There's nothing magical about a $100M finish. Its had a solid run after a quiet start; will finish with a 4 multi and WW total of twice its covid-inflated budget. With strong audience scores and a long life ahead on PVOD and streaming, a sequel would easily do better biz.
TwoMisfits
It was Fandango Quantum Leap day yesterday ($3.55 tickets including fees), so we might see better holds, especially among family movies, than expected...
TwoMisfits
PS - Looking at WW numbers, Superpets has definitely made it out of bomb/flop territory. It's easily gonna make 2x/budget (or $180m)...now to see how much higher it can go. Still might stay in the disappointing category, but I think it will take that with both the quality of the movie and the success of animateds in the Covid and beyond era...

Yeah, I was pretty sure after I saw it that it would leg out (and even that took a while to get going), but that soft start was a lot to overcome. Still, I think this could be a very successful franchise for WB, and I also think it's important to provide opportunities for young people to fall in love with these characters- not everything has be be Black Adam. (Although I did love it in Pets when Krypto briefly fantasized about going to the dark side with Lois 😂.)

The Quantum Leap promo actually went live on the 15th, with all the redemption limits having been reached by the end of the day. That and the code was able to be applied to any upcoming ticket on any day, so I don't think this will actually alter the results either way.

Huh, I thought the ticket had to be used yesterday - shows what I know (now you know - I don't use Fandango, but I did almost buy a ticket:)... PlatnumRoyce
No one's going to talk about the sneaky bad first week numbers for Woman King? Looking more like a 50-60M Domestic grosser than something that's going to ride tippy top marks to 75M or above.
Valonqar
cause it's too early? All movies tend to stabilize in later weeks. And this one didn't even have a full first week. lets see the second weekend hold before hitting panic button. DWD also targets women and if I'm not mistaken WK is losing some PLF screens. So A+ WOM vs direct competition. Edited September 22, 2022 by Valonqar
narniadis
Its also not having a sneaky bad first week, so theres little to discuss. Its not holding out of this world, but so far its not bad either. 🤷♂️

My thoughts were more that the insane level of praise for the film's 19M OW either implicitly or explicitly implied if not out of this world legs than at least 75th percentile ones. Sort of early to discuss but what else is really on the docket?
Valonqar
I think that some people are still expecting summer weekday holds. That ship has sailed no matter how strong WOM may be. It's really up to weekends to make up for it.
