Who loves The Dark Knight Rises most?

Posted Image

The theoretical values in million $ are the grosses of The Dark Knight Rises corrected for the Hollywood-Blockbuster-market size in each country. This size is determined by the sum of the 15 biggest Holllywood blockbusters of 2011 (local blockbuster are not taken into account) The table is sorted descending by this theoretical value. TDKR is the gross of The Dark Knight Rises in million $ in each country.

The theoretical values could be interpreted either what would have been America's gross with the same love for this movie or what would this country have grossed had it the same marketsize as America.

DOM top followed by UK, Asia divided

Would 4 Billion-grossers WW be something special in 2012?

How many movies grossed more than $1b adjusted for inflation:

Posted Image

I am using American comsumer price index to adjust for inflation. CPI = equivalent of $1000 in 1980.(logic behind: all these $ are transfered to the US and used there). border is $1b adjusted for inflation in million $ and #>border is number of movies with a WW-gross higher than this border.

So yes 4 would be special. The numbers increased not only by inflation, but also by growth of (mainly OS) markets.

Vienna regularly wins such competitions

http://www.huffingto...lide=more258709

coming from the question: how many cinemas does a city need?

Vienna has 100 per million population

Paris 83

Berlin 77

London 69

Sidney 64

New York 61

Tokyo 25

:o

Too many cinemas in these Europe cities. I am guessing poor per theater attendances they have ...

Tokyo is in the right range.
