Strange Darling | August 23, 2024 | Willa Fitzgerald Best Actress Consideration

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised I couldn't find a thread for this film. It's absolutely incredible. Outside of Quebec's "Red Rooms", this is easily the best thriller of the year. I can't believe Giovanni Ribisi was the cinematographer. This film looks incredible. Willa Fitzgerald's performance is nothing short of iconic. I haven't seen a single performance this year that matches it (male or female). If it's available at your local theater, please choose this above all (adults only).

This was a blast, highly recommend. Finally a proper damn B horror / thriller this summer after being varyingly underwhelmed with MaXXXine, Longlegs and Alien: Romulus. Lead actress gave maybe the best performance I've seen this year.

Spoiler

Nice to see Steve Gomez make an appearance, was hoping he'd make it out alive this time though

Went to see this last night. I follow Kyle Gallner on social media and he had said months ago not to watch any trailers.

So I knew nothing about it and as my local wasn’t showing it, the trailer never played. Went to a different cinema and I’m so glad I went in blind.

Love the structure gimmick, it really threw me with its twist and Willa Fitzgerald gives an insane performance. One monologue in particular towards the end, sensational stuff. The score too.

Watched this without knowing anything other than seeing the poster, and so glad I did. I thought the non-linear structure was a gimmick for the first half hour, then realised the movie had completely caught me off guard and hoodwinked me.

I loved it, one of the best films of the year for sure. Both actors give phenomenal performances and are utterly convincing from both perspectives. The soundscape and the visuals make this a fantastic cinematic experience - so glad I saw it in the cinema rather than on streaming.

I can't believe this is Giovanni Ribisi's first movie as a cinematographer, because he is absolutely insane at it. Way better at this than acting. I hope he shoots many more films cause he clearly has a gift for this.
