I seriously don't get the critical acclaim for the Terrifier movies.

I see why the third one finally breaks out, as it obviously has the "You have to see it"-vibe with it being that brutal, but honestly, as movies, the first two were just...well, they weren't movies with basically no plot. It can be fun as a group experience. But as a movie? Well...I just don't get it.

Just the usual torture porn, right? Popular genre.

Saturday Night had an automatic uphill battle in our NTC hellscape, but I do think it not being distributed by Universal was its biggest flaw. With Uni, they would have for sure done a lot of cross-promotion synergy with the new SNL season, have tons of ads on Sunday Night Football, on Peacock, and so forth to get the word out. But with Sony distributing, that incentive was gone right then and there. Like anecdotally, my parents have been watching SNL since it first premiered in 1975. They watch the newest episode every week and get excited every time a new season premieres. Saturday Night was tailor-made to appeal to them, but they didn't know it was a thing until I told them like a week before the film premiered. That's a problem.

I’m a little confused how and why the movie is being made without any Lorne Michaels involvement. Like Reitman definitely has some kind of connection with him and SNL (considering his dad worked a lot with SNL cast members) and it doesn’t seem like the movie has anything terrible to say about him.

Wait, he’s not an executive producer? I just assumed he was. Yeah, this while project was a real missed opportunity, at least financially speaking. I don’t even like SNL, and I can see they put this whole project in the wrong place and wrong time.

Sony’s Saturday Night ($1.55M Friday, $4M wide break at 2,309 sites), Focus Features’ Piece by Piece ($1.25M Friday, $3M weekend at 1,863) and worst, Briarcliff Entertainment’s The Apprentice with $500K today and $1.3M-$1.5M opening. This speaks to a greater dilemma when it comes to moviegoers’ immediate want-to-see when it comes to smaller films and what they decipher on a streaming menu; not that these titles were meant for streaming.

Man, that Penguin show is very good.

Yes, it is. Although that's partly because it makes the Reeves version of Gotham more "lived in" since we see it from a more dangerous vantage point than the safety of Batman/Alfred's Batcave this time. Also it makes pretty clear the Riddler was a murderous psychopath but also, ultimately a fraud (since the trauma of his actions overwhelmingly hit the poor of Gotham)
