Do you think Monsters University could be successful there?

Considering that IM2 did only 12M, I'm hoping for 20M-25M, I think if IM3 can do that, it would be very great.

You're probably right!

However, The Avengers will really help, the character is certainly most famous there now, they even created an Iron Man anime :

From Corpse

Weekend Forecast (4/20-21)

1 (-) Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea (Toho) ¥590 million ($6.1 million) DEBUT! [334 theaters]
2 (-) Lincoln (Disney) ¥220 million ($2.3 million) DEBUT! [331 theaters]
3 (-) Crayon Shin-chan: Very Tasty! Gourmet Survival Class (Toho) ¥200 million ($2.1 million) DEBUT! [323 theaters]
4 (1) Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (Toei) ¥140 million ($1.5 million) Week 4
5 (2) Wreck-It Ralph (Disney) ¥125 million ($1.3 million) Week 5
6 (3) We Knit Ship (Shochiku/Asmik Ace) ¥75 million ($770,000) Week 2
7 (4) Platinum Data (Toho) ¥65 million ($665,000) Week 6
8 (5) Chinese Zodiac (Kadokawa Pictures) ¥60 million ($615,000) Week 2
9 (7) Aibou Series: X-Day (Toei) ¥50 million ($510,000) Week 5
10 (6) Doraemon: Nobita's Secret Gadet Museum (Toho) ¥40 million ($410,000) Week 7

The sixteenth Detective Conan film will have no problem opening on top once again this year and will deliver one of the bigger openings of the year (again). And with the way anime films have been breaking long-standing franchise records for the past year, I won't be surprised if it opens over ¥600 million.

Lincoln looks poised to do respectable numbers. Anything with Spielberg's name attached to it still attracts many in the market.

And Crayon Shin-chan will open with his usual annual numbers around ¥200 million. This year's film is the 21st theatrical release in the franchise.

A darkhorse this weekend is the opening of the Steins; Gate film. It's only playing in 18 theaters, but that doesn't mean it can't debut in the Top 10.

Saturday Estimates (4/20)

1 Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea (Toho) ¥284 million ($3.0 million), 0, DEBUT!
2 Crayon Shin-chan: Very Tasty! Gourmet Survival Class (Toho) ¥85 million ($870,000), 0, DEBUT!
3 Lincoln (Disney) ¥83 million ($850,000), 0, DEBUT!
4 Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods (Toei) ¥81 million ($825,000), -31%, Week 4
5 Wreck-It Ralph (Disney) ¥67 million ($685,000), -20%, Week 5
6 We Knit Ship (Shochiku/Asmik Ace) ¥46 million ($470,000), -18%, Week 2
7 Platinum Data (Toho) ¥34 million ($345,000), -28%, Week 6
8 Chinese Zodiac (Kadokawa Pictures) ¥28 million ($285,000), -38%, Week 2
9 Aibou Series: X-Day (Toei) ¥26 million ($265,000), -35%, Week 5
10 Doraemon: Nobita's Secret Gadget Museum (Toho) ¥24 million ($245,000), -45%, Week 7

Great number for Detective Conan. The opening day estimate is 5% higher than the 2011 film, and 12% lower than last year's film (last year's film opened on a Movix Cinema discount day, however). It should be able to clear ¥550 million (about $6 million) and 450,000 admissions for the weekend. I made a mistake in the weekend forecast saying that this is the 16th Detective Conan film when it's actually the 17th.

Crayon-Shin chan and Lincoln are in a close race for the #2 spot on track for ¥175-¥200 million ($2 million). Shin-chan retained 99% of it's audience last year, and Lincoln sold 7% more tickets than Flight on opening day last month.

Golden holiday week will give a great boost for its BO!

TA opened last year during Obon holiday/festival and that definitely helped its gross. So let's hope IM3 can get some good boost from the Golden Holiday week  :)

A success in Japan would definitely prove the "Avengers effect"  is real given they didn't give a damn about Iron Man before the release of TA. That will be interesting!
