Moonrise Kingdom

I will give Moonrise Kingdom a straight up 5/5, because it is such beautiful movie. I mean by god, how was this robbed for a best cinematography nomination?! Its a feast for your eyes and your ears too, because, as always with Anderson, the soundtrack rules.The kid actors are both natural and very likable, and most of the adult actors are good too (especially Bruce Willis as the sadsack police officer). MK never goes overboard with quirkiness or the odd characters, and its well written even though it gets kinda muddled when the storm comes into the picture. This is actually a film I'd recommend to kids, but to smart kids. One of the best films of 2012, absolutely5/5

I have no idea what I just watched haha, I have no idea how to even grade a film like this. 

 

It was hilarious though and Kara Hayward killed it.

I liked the film but felt there was something missing that made it great. I thought it was a little too whimsy. I'd rank it on the lower end of the Wes Anderson filmographyRushmore. light-hearted with a soft bite. undoubtedly extremely well compiled and its explorations of youth is interesting; nevertheless, something about it prevented it from really affecting me. perhaps it's the quirkiness that never felt entirely natural, a bit forced, not helped by the two leads whose effort was admirable but suffered the usual issues of young actors.
