China Box Office Thread | Deadpool & Wolverine- July 26

Well considering the three biggest CBM grosses in China are TA (first epic ensemble fearuring several characters from different), CATWS (Epic movie with political  themes that resonate in China) and IM3 (perceived as TA follow up featuring the biggest Avenger character), it makes perfect sense.

I think a CBM needs to be greatly done to pass that mark with good story telling, themes that are as important as the character charisma and legacy.

The problem with Spidey is that Webb didn't have to build his status, he just had to exploit it.

This is a wake up call for Sony. You can't just expect that countries will keep on giving a pass to a beloved character because of his iconic or popular status.  Once in a while, you have to deliver a really great product to keep the momentum.    And the last great Spidey movie is ten years old...

You're right. I can't argue with this.

I don't recall but doesn't seem to be the kind of movie the authorities would warm too.  I cited DVC because back in the day, the movie was on screens for maybe two weeks and was forcibly pulled down from the screens in the name of the Vatican being upset by it...for religious reasons clearly.  The ridiculous thing is the Vatican doesn't even have formal ties with China.

Fact: most Chinese people donot believe in any kind of religions.

However, because the Chinese government is a coward, they try to aviod anything related to religions (any kind of), including releasing a movie that has caused some sort of boycott in some remote countries.

It's ridiculous.

That would be 222m for ASM2, not 212m.

Big 58%+ Friday increase, rare but not unexplainable, as many audience finally got the time to see it after 6 days into release. If it could get 60m+, or bigger than OD, then 500m+ would be well back on track with 330m by Sunday.

Are we sure it is 38m and not 28m?

Sure. Some estimates have it at 40 or slightly above.

Some workers and students got to see it on last Sunday. But many more who had to work had to wait 6 days till this Friday evening and weekend.

If that's true then we might see a lower than normal jump on Saturday, no?
