Tickets for The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-man Going on Sale

By Firedeep | 22:00pm, Shanghai

Midnight opening shows for TDKR and TASM went on pre-sales in most major theaters national wide this week. And the competition between the two big pictures, however, is still a big problem on every side. Out of the 74 IMAX theaters now available in the country, most plans to run two midnight shows, one for each, for the two blcokbusters on August 26, the Sunday night, we learned. And of the relatively limited big screen theaters, more than 40 will show Spiderman first right at midnight and then Batman at the about 02:45am. No wonder that the former gets a little more theaters, since both pictures are meant to sell extremely well at the night and Spderman will enjoy a higher ticket price.

Most IMAX theaters will run 7 day time shows and 1 midnight show one day during the time of TDKR and TASM according to the releasing scheadule of Wanda cinemas, the biggest theater chain in China. "We are ready for 40 midnight sellouts for the two blockbusters." A source close to Wanda cinemas in Changchun told me. Current mdnight sellouts record in the city is the opening of Titanic in April with 40, followed by Transformers 3 with 33 in last July. Wanda runs 4 theaters in Changchun and three of them are IMAX-capable.

Outside the harsh competition from mega screens, good or bad, TASM will be released in 3D excusively. It will take almost all 3D screens until Prometheus comes on Sunday. TDKR, on the other hand, looks likely to ocuppy the same amount of 2D screens. However, some audience will probably make a choice the two when they go to the theaters.

Overally, theaters are really ready for the biggest week and month ever after a not so good summer, with the continuous arrivals of Hollywood big movies like TDKR, TASM, Prometheus, The Bourne Legacy and Total Recall, the last two both got a September 13th release date recently. This September will also see two big Sino-US co-produced pictures, The Expendables and Looper, the latter dated 9.28 last week.

I see around or slight less than 2.0 multiplier for both from 7 days opening week.

So both need at least 40M opening to end up with a respectable total.....It's gonna be a crazy week. Why the fuck is Prometheus now releasing on Sunday?

No idea. But Sunday or Monday, not much difference at this poit. TDKR, TASM, PROM, TBL all have crazy buzz here. BUt They all gonna hurt. And I am afraid TR will get totally disabled.

You know what is more crazy ?? I have heard that TE2 release date likely to be Sep. 7th ...

He's talking about the IMAX showtimes. Spidey gets shown at midnight while TDKR gets stuck at 3 AM. WB is getting fucked. Probably because they protested the release date to begin with.

IMAX theaters are too limited. TDKR or TASM, which gets the midnight IMAX shows, will have sellouts all around. But since TASM is IMAX3D while TDKR IMAX2D. Ticket price for IMAX3D is higher than IMAX2D. So more theaters would rather treat TASM midnight shows rather than TDKR. Same goes for day time shows.

The rule for the gov. is that they want local movies account for no less than 50% of the overall annual box office. But since it is becoming harder and harder for local movies to secure that mark, they have to limit the potential of Hollywood ones.

More, to secure that 50% mark, they are counting The Expendables 2 and Looper as local movies inside the country. Ironman 3 in 2013 will be counted as local film too.

Chinese government is damn annoying shoving all the Hollywood films together.Chinese people love Hollywood films and want more of them and grosses are getting bigger. Trying to limit the success of these Hollywood blockbusters is a fruitless task as they are getting bigger in China every year. Hopefully the Chinese government will see they cannot win in the end and stop their meddling.
