A Marvel Fanboy
Nope. It opened on Saturday (the last day of Spring Holiday) but the following Sunday was working day, so was Monday. peludo
I do not know Chinese tastes, but could the difference between both movies be because MI4 is more "spectacular" than Skyfall? maybe because Skyfall is more serious? or maybe Tom Cruise name in China is bigger than Mendes/Craig/Bardem? Just speculation.

A Marvel Fanboy
The James Bond blockbuster Skyfall is off to a strong start in China, opening to $5.1 million on Monday. OUR EDITOR RECOMMENDS Chinese Censors Clamp Down on 'Skyfall' Box Office Milestone: Daniel Craig's 'Skyfall' Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide Sony insiders say not many films opening on a Monday do such big business. Skyfall opened 14 percent ahead of last summer'sThe Dark Knight Rises, which also opened on a Monday on its way to grossing $50 million in China, and did almost three times the business that previous 007 film Quantum of Solace did on its first day in 2008. The tentpole, with a current worldwide cume of $1.04 billion, opened on a record 8,079 screens. "On its final stop on a remarkable journey, Skyfall's long-awaited China opening does not disappoint," an insider noted.

Poseidon
Following Chinese Box Office may be fun on the surface, but if you go deeper, it's really nothing to be excited about. At least as long as it's manipulated as obvious as it is now.And it's not just manipulating numbers, it's manipulating people, too, when you cut 40 minutes out of a movie. There's that one quote of chinese producer in the article about the subject in The Hollywood Reporter, where he states, that chinese people would like to see more of a popcorn movie. Yeah, right. Feed them stupid and brainless popcorn movies, just don't feed their minds with something to think about. You just can hope, that the day is not too far away, where chinese people finally can live the lives and have the opinions they want to. It's about time. jb007
I'm assuming the pacing of a movie makes a big difference in China as it does in India as far as action movies are concerned. It is not surprising that MI:4 was received better given that MI:4 action scenes are spectacular and the pacing of the movie is noticeably facter than Skyfall. POLYLOVE
Sony did nothing to fight piracy. They should blame themselves for the disappointing OD number.
riczhang
Sony did nothing to fight piracy. They should blame themselves for the disappointing OD number. What could they do? Those screeners were sent to something like 150000 people. They couldn't fight that. And it's not like they didn't try to do what they could. Those Skyfall screeners went out extremely late to the point where it barely made the SAG voting deadline. They delayed it for as long as they can so that the film could make as much as it can without a screener floating around cutting into revenues. Even after the screeners were sent out it still took weeks for someone to break the watermark and leak it. Though, everyone should go ask Harvey what he's doing to prevent screener leakages because the Weinstein company has their own special way of watermarking screeners that's much more stringent and hard to break than the ones that most other studios use. For example the Master hasn't leaked and the rest of his films were the latest leaks of the season with the sole exception of Les Mis which leaked either later the same day or the day after.
