Bob Violence
DWA has an office in Shanghai that's doing a lot of the work on Kung Fu Panda 3 (which has been set up as a Chinese co-production). Unless I'm mistaken, The Croods is only one of two Hollywood movies this year (the other was IM3) to get an extended run in China. That would definitely suggest DWA has better relations with the Film Bureau. Of course The Croods was still pulled well before its run was supposed to end, but the fact it got an extension at all is remarkable.

Godzilla
Assuming 70M Saturday holds, another 60M Sunday is possible. So nearly 279M, or right $45M, for first 5-days. WB most likely will report only $43M or so on Sunday though. Next week, beginning on Thursday, will be critical: FOUR big local ROM-COM opens for the Chinese Valentine's Day (8.13), which could easily score one of the biggest day of the year at the box office, maybe the biggest summer day. PR for sure will lose most of its screenings to those movies. Possible weekly breakdown for PR: 279M ------ 150M ------ 60M ------ 15M = 504M finish $80M For comparison, IM3, also 5-days OW, with little competitions except SY for half months: 400M ------ 200M ------ 100M ------ 40M ---- 10M = 750M finish, less than 2X multiplier. As for FF6: 180M ------ 160M ------ 50M ------ 10M = 400M finish $65M, (one of) the worst legs for any Hollywood movies EVER.80M is the bare minimum, it mostly likely will cross 90M+..................... Olive
Sat #s PR 68m(+48%) 216m(should do 270-275 OW) FF6 21.5m 320m WHD 4.2m 160m
POLYLOVE
TT2 won't take away PR's audiences, but it will take away screens, a lot... That's the problem.
A Marvel Fanboy
Just accept it that you underestimated PR's potential in China Not by much. My range $50~60M. While $80M is still no lock. Edited August 4, 2013 by firedeep
A Marvel Fanboy
Fun fact: PR: 5-days 275M ----- ATP 41 yuan ---- Adm: 6.7M FF6: 5-days 240M ----- ATP 32 yuan ---- Adm: 7.5M In other words: PR first 5 days attendance less than that of FF6 Take it by daily, PR daily admissions always fall behind FF6. For example, PR Sat 68M & 1.65M adm. while FF6 Sat 66M yuan & 2.06M adm. That is really a BIG gap between PR and FF6. So in adms. PR is no match to FF6. Yet FF6 atm is dropping like a rock. With that Sat, PR 5-days should be 275M $44M. WB will be reporting $42M or so. Do keep in mind that $80M is no lock for PR. As for FF6, 400M is in danger with almost all its screens taken in next three days. 180M 3-days opening, 400M finish. Worst legs of all time. It just shows movies do drop bigger than you expect. A Marvel Fanboy
But MOS is holding well against the claim that it will finish under STID. MOS opened bigger than STiD and didnt face as many competitors as PR will. That said, PR will finish around 530M $85M with MOS legs.
A Marvel Fanboy
PR got less screenings than FF6. The average number of people per show is higher than FF6. Nah, the two got pretty much the same amount of daily shows. Per show attendence first week: FF6 52 (181M yuan, 105K shows, 5.4M adms.) PR 50 (200M yuan through 100K shows and 5M adms.) Are people complaining about the lack of 2D showings or are they content with 3D?
