I don't know if the London critics ever have much influence but as of right now I do think Amour is going to win actress/director at the BAFTAs.

That's what I think. I think Amour will go 4 for 4 with the BAFTAs. Director, Actress, Screenplay, Language.

My fear is that SAG will give it to Alan Arkin because they want to honor Affleck and Argo.

WOW. Atonement got 14 nominations as well....Hanake has the best chance with BAFTA cos they love going with more respected directors more. Even in the year of American Beauty they chose Almodovar for director.

Exactly. They like awarding these types of directors. Almadovar for a film about Aids, Lee in a film in chinese, and etc.

The Aviator and Crouching Tiger both got 14 nominations with BAFTA as well. Jeez, when these guys love a movie they really love it.

I have my theories but I still can't come up with a rational explanation as to why that movie did so well everywhere.

One film could conceivably get 19 BAFTA nominations, but this is practically impossible because it'd have to be nommed for Visual Effects, 2 a piece in each supporting category, be British, and be a First film for someone involved in the film.

I'm glad Elizabeth won best picture and best actress that year. eta: didn't win best picture but best British picture.
