85th Academy Awards (24/2/13) Official Thread- TONIGHT!! NOMINEES IN THE FIRST POST

Hathaway's performance was better in the trailer than in the actual movie which was kind of "look at me !" performing in one take I Dreamed a Dream while I am crying way better than Kate Winslet in a holocaust movie.

It was technical, she nailed it but did I feel something ?

Not really.

Controversial opinion: Hathaway's I Dreamed a Dream sequence is my favorite single shot of 2012. Everything I thought it could do to me... it did, twofold. Never forced, never "look at me!", just as raw and emotional as Hooper wanted the whole film to be. It helps that when they filmed it, the cameraman went out to get a soda.

Other favorite shots of the year-

- Joaquin Phoenix caressing a whore made of sand

- Jessica Chastain sobbing after being told "Where do you want to go?"

- Leonardo DiCaprio sticking out his hand in front of Christoph Waltz, grinning like a madman

- Bane throwing Batman to the ground

- Tracking shot of Denis Lavant playing an accordion

- Marion Cotillard communicating with a whale through her arms

- James Bond taking out an assassin in Shanghai

- Lincoln sitting in front of Adam Driver, asking if people can choose to be born, or if people are fitted to the times they are born into

- Pi watching the ship sink underwater

1. The Avengers 360 shot.

2. Katniss, terrified enters the tube, Katniss' salute to Rue 's District with James Newton Howard score :shivers every time. The first spark from the modern Joan of Arc ignites here and it is beautiful.

3. Most Selena Kyle scenes in TDKR

4. Same for Tiffany in SLP.

5. The Mentos/Coke device in Wreck it Ralph : Glorious !

6. Life of Pi : sea and water as paintings.

7. Snow white : the Myazaki tribute scene.

8. Skyfall : The asian scenes in the night.

9. War  Horse : the horse runs trough trenches

10. Looper : The Akira scenes with the kid.

DOR is on MSNBC right now talking about his White House visit... I don't like to see him having to stoop this low for Oscar campaigning ala Lincoln. The work speaks for itself.

I'm not quite sure how MSNBC is effective oscar campaigning..... It's almost a waste of time...

That ending in SLP was so clearly tacked on to give it a happy ending.

From a thematic standpoint, I could have bought them losing the parlay and Cooper still ending up with Lawrence. A true silver lining that would fit right in tone with the rest of the film. But yes, everything after J-Law shows up at Cooper's house goes south.

You know I was thinking-had Affleck been nominated for director, imagine what would happen if he lost? Because he would of placed 5th in the noms (which we would never know)-so what would of the reaction been then?

Still it is a tough call.I have Lincoln winning in the game.(Part of me wants Lincoln to win also for the studios. Disney has actually never won-Fox has not won since 1971. Well Unforgiven was WB's first win since My Fair Lady!)
