I was actually kinda into this movie despite its pretentiousness (oh yeah bitch, i used the p-word) until Paul Giamatti turned up. After that the movie completely lost my attention. Still, the first hour and 10 minutes are interesting and smart. So fucking smart actually that i always didnt know wtf they were talking about.2,5/5

I hated this movie until the very last scene, which was amazing, brilliantly acted by Giamatti and Pattinson kept up with him surprisingly well, and that's when I finally thought I got what the flick was talking about. Everything before that annoyed the shit out of me though so wouldn't recommend anyway.

Saw it twice, loved it each time. Uncompromising, hilarious satire on the 1%, and Cronenberg's best since A History of Violence.

cronenberg movies always feature a degree of weirdness, particularly on the outside, but i can't imagine he's made a film that feels as bizarre to the very core as this. most starkly is the extremely stilted dialogue and script, and every character and event is a metaphor for something related to the financial crisis, from the big rich guys to the wannabe revolutionaries to the very machinations of the monetary system itself. all of this is both awesome and incomprehensible. it's also a comedy.
