21 and Over is the story of 3 friends from high school that get back together to celebrate the 21st birthday of Jeff Chang(Justin Chon). Firstly, one thing that makes this movie funnier then most of the other of this new what happened? blackout comedies is that it is entirely grounded. Unlike some of the stunts pulled in Hangover 3 with helicopters and dru21g deals and stuff that just didn't make a lick of sense, this film is pretty simple. The kids get drunk and lost and have to find their way back to Chang's house so he can get ready for his job interview. There are very little tricks involved. Chang spends most of the film passed out drunk which enables him to be used like a punching bag that gets dropped from windows.

This film also takes time to explore relationships and how they devolve. Like the kids were best friends in high school but they all went off to do typical movie college kid stuff. Like Chang was studying to be a doctor, Casey goes to Stanford, and Teller is stuck in community college. None of them are really happy where they are at and through the night, they each hit on why exactly that is. I thought the film was able to handle those aspects between crazy drunken mess and real life issues pretty well since the script did not let the characters talk like psychiatrists, instead they talked kids. While it is bit derivative and takes a few beats to really get rolling I would still recommend this one for a fun time! B+
