Is it better than TA?How much is it projected to gross during OW

No, TA did better on OD. TA made $732,000 without Wed. midnights.TDKR is going for DH2's OW. Around the 3.5-3.8m area. It will set the 2D OW record though and be only the 2nd 2D movie to gross 3m OW (after Kung Fu Hustle).

TDKR's OD ranks 6th behind Spider-Man 3, DH2, Transformers 3, The Avengers and Kung Fu Hustle. It's an excellent start for the caped crusader as weekend will allow viewers more chances to see the masked vigilante on the big screen. Walk-ins have been fairly good as they have comprised of almost half of its business so far but weekend so far has been slightly disappointing. Let's see if the weekend crowd carries on the trend for Saturday and Sunday.

Outstanding hold for Ice Age 4. It is on target to pass the 3rd movie's 4.1m total. If Scrat and the gang thought surviving the Batman would be tough, IA4 moves onto the most difficult part of its run. The next 4 weeks will see animation films released in a big way with 2 branded films (Madagascar 3, Pixar's Brave) and a host of other smaller animation movies out. It will be hard for IA4 to continue its great hold with so many kids films upcoming in a short period of time but it could exit with a cool 4.6m. Amazing Spider-Man got clobbered by TDKR. 8m is still within its grasp as it will finish the weekend off swinging around a 7.75m total. Abraham Lincoln could not deliver another good hold as TDKR killed the majority of holdovers this week. It will hack its way to a 1.4-1.5m total. The Four had a weak hold and will fade away from theaters with a little over $225,000. Painted Skin 2 had the weakest hold of anybody in the top 10 and after having a slight lead over the original opening weekend, it will end up with a worse multiplier and a lower total. Silenced was the only film in the top 10 to not lose close to half of its business. Another soft drop and we could see it increase next week after Batman mania dials down. Hotaru couldn't sustain itself and finally suffered a harsh drop. Its days are over and it will gleam $225,000 before leaving. When Pigs Have Wings is only showing in 1 theater but it will have a solid PTA over $10,000. I see it has already been added at another theater so while the PTA will go slightly down, it might see a $15k start. W.E. eased gracefully and will close up shop with about $50,000.

TDKR fell on Friday but I still think that is pretty good. It's already made more than 1.2m and the 2 biggest days are still to come. Ice Age 4 is pulling off amazing drops. If it weren't for TDKR gunning for records this week, this could have easily made another 1m for the weekend. Spider-Man will suffer the worst hold of the top 5 this weekend but its holds have been highly impressive till now, a big turnaround from SM3. Abraham Lincoln had a very good hold last weekend but TDKR took the steam out of it. It will end up close to Green Lantern's total.

5 Ice Age: Continental Drift (3D Eng.) -- 1,285 -- --

Disappointing pre-sales for TDKR. Walk-ins will need to go into overdrive if it wants to hit 3.5m now. It should exceed 110,000 admissions today. Ice Age 4 is showing little sign of slowing down. It will drop the hardest on Sunday but the 3 other days should make up for any huge losses experienced on that day. TASM lost most of its weekend showtimes from last week so it'll be tough to gain any ground today and tomorrow.

Ice Age 4 has clawed its way back and Monday showtimes have seen it upgraded either in screen size or # of showings while TDKR has taken a slight hit.

What were you expecting? By the way, there's still 7 hours to go so this is not final. It'll end up with more than 1m for the day.

I don't know, but 6th best OD all-time doesn't ring well for such a movie...Maybe I expected too much.

Oh, you were talking about OD. I think you were expecting way too much for TDKR. In addition to being a 2D film, it is almost a 3 hour movie. To have the 2nd highest 2D OD and the 6th biggest for a long film like that is nothing short of a miracle. It is an excellent number.

While TDKR did not cross 100,000 in admissions, it made over 1m anyway. It is possibly the first 2D film to make over 1m. Huge Saturday and it'll make over 3.3m this weekend. Extremely good for Ice Age 4 and it is looking to slip below 50% (without previews). That would be ridiculous. 8m is now a toss-up for TASM. It will need to have a good hold next weekend to make it. Abraham Lincoln and Painted Skin 2 evaporated.

5 Painted Skin: The Resurrection $33,000 -86.7% $1,155,000

5th biggest OW of all time. Very nice. It increased about 50% from TDK's OW. This marks the 3rd movie to make 3m OW (includes Spider-Man's 4-day OW) this year. No other year has had 3 movies hit 3m OW. It also is the 4th weekend in a row where all films have combined for more than a 3.4m total.

Amazing hold by Ice Age 4. If you take out the early previews, it would have dropped only 49%. Definitely making 4.5m now. TASM will need a good hold next week to secure 8m. It's definitely still in the hunt though. Abraham Lincoln and Painted Skin 2 collapsed with huge loss of showtimes.

Warner Bros. HK reporting that TDKR's OD is $661,107, making it the biggest 2D OD ever. It also points out that it made over $64,461 in IMAX OD, the largest gross ever in IMAX on opening day.Keep in mind though that TDKR had 3 IMAX theaters as opposed to 2 for Avatar or other movies.

Although it may seem like everything increased on Sunday, Saturday admissions were affected by UA's website going down in the middle of the afternoon which meant that a lot of admissions were not counted. As such, we saw huge upswings today with the biggest coming from Silenced. Silenced is only showing in UA theaters and it supposedly made $2,668 (down from this Thursday) on Saturday. Its Saturday showtimes were the same as Thursday's, however, and business was definitely busier on Saturday than Thursday. To go even further, today, it made about $7,500, right around where it should be based on Thursday actuals.

Based on this and the top 5 increasing on Sunday by at least 11%, I have adjusted the weekend estimates for all films. Every film has seen a big increase from projections with TDKR being bumped up another $200,000. I also have not accounted for the OD number provided by Warner Bros. HK so estimates could be even higher. If these estimates hold, TDKR becomes the first 2D film to break the 3.5m mark and the weekend will become the biggest weekend of the year beating the weekend when The Avengers came out.

What a huge weekend for The Dark Knight Rises. Despite many people thinking it could have a chance of breaking the OW record, it was impossible with the long runtime, not enough screens and formidable competition from the 2nd weekend of Ice Age 4. But the good news is that there were a lot of sellouts on the weekend with afternoon and evening showtimes sold out at theaters with very large screens. The shooting had no effect at all even with it being the top story this weekend. Defeating TDK's total is assured even though competition will occur starting next week. It has had very good WOM so far and there will be no action movie till Total Recall begins recalling next Thursday.

Ice Age 4 shocked theater owners with surprising strength as many were forced to give one of TDKR's bigger screens to IA4 on the weekend. Some theaters also went with just a 2 movie rotation of TDKR and IA4 on Saturday/Sunday, seemingly impressed by the animation movie's continued support from couples/families. It is a lock to beat out IA3's total and become the biggest Ice Age movie of the franchise. 4.5m is assured though The Pirates, Doraemon and One Piece/Toriko might accelerate it falling harder as they are all released next week.

The Amazing Spider-Man might be down for the count with a 77% drop but 7.9m is happening. 8m should be well within its reach but it will have to avoid hard falls like this one to make it. I wouldn't be too worried as it had a great drop against Ice Age 4 and with no new action release till Total Recall, I think next week we will see a rebound for Spidey.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is trying desperately to make it to 1.5m but I don't see it in its future. Step Up Revolution and The Pirates will corral screens next week and theaters are going to take it away from movies with lower grosses. 1.4m would be a decent total.

Painted Skin: The Resurrection is really falling off the rails but its run can be considered a success despite the huge drops after OW.
