  1. Super 8 full trailer was pretty incredible, as was the Cloverfield teaser and that final Star Trek trailer. J.J. really kills it with the trailers. I also love the last Deathly Hallows trailers, both Inglorious Basterds, and both Inception trailers (which have become the most influential trailers of modern times, because of the style and music.)
  2. I actually didn't want to see Life of Pi prior to my roommate dragging me to it, and I actually really loved it. Pleasant surprise. Didn't like it near as much as TDKR, but as someone who has a Batman tattoo I should never have been expected to.
  3. Most LikableTom Hardy- Nobody is more watchable on screen than this guy. He just exudes a quiet charisma that can't be touched. Seems really cool in his interviews too.Leonardo DiCaprio- Incredible actor and consumate professional, but what makes me like him even more is his environmental activism. One of the true celebrities who gets involved on a face to face basis with a major problem, not just throwing money at the issue as charity.Channing Tatum- I can see why he became so popular, the guy is just really hard not to like on screen or off. Just something in his personality. Also, I hate nothing more than celebrities who whine about fame even though they are the luckiest people on Earth to have what they have, so I admire that Tatum truly seems as "happy to be here" about the business as anyone.
  4. And with Globes, SAG, and BFCA this week, among others, it'll probably triple again.
  5. The same exact thing applies to those "UK reviews" that you just discredited. You disagree with them even though you haven't seen the movie too. No genre translates as well as musicals do in terms of adaptations. Quality musicals mean quality films.
  6. Uh, you're the one who said that only UK reviewers gave it positive notices, so I pointed out that the negative reviews are just as flaky. And maybe some of those are mixed, but they're evidence that the film isn't getting "trashed" near as much as you say. I have no reason to inflate Les Mis. Django is my horse in this race, and I'll be just as happy if ZDT, Lincoln, Argo, or Pi wins. I'm excited a bout the movie because I like the musical and I like what I've seen so far- the same reason anybody gets excited and defends any movie. That's the point of these things called "opinions."
  7. Most of those negative reviews are equally bullshit reviews that hate on the film in the same manner the UKs reviews love it. This is wait and see time. Plus, I trust Total Film, HeyUGuys, Cole Smithey, Variety, and others, and they gave positive reviews.
  8. 1. It's still early, and as I said, it's still going up.2. Yes, I read THR review, but I wasn't aware Todd McCarthy, great reviewer he is, is the be all, end all of film quality.3. No musical ever gets unanimous support, even the most critically acclaimmed Chicago has a relatively low score among best picture winners. If you want to see a musical get trashed, look at Nine (which is a terrible stage show, so I really don't know why this was a suprise. les mis is a classic)
  9. Les Mis is at 70 percent with a high 7.5 average rating, and still going up, it's not really getting trashed except for a couple of reviewers who hate musicals anyway. The Master winning so much is a big let down for me. I respect the acting and technical aspects of the movie alot, but it was by far the most pretentious, useless script of the year.
  10. Just like everyone has one movie that they root against (fishnets and Hobbit, a couple of people and Beasts, alot of people and Twilight, etc.), the Master is that film for me. What a pretentious, boring, meaningless film that was. Tried so hard to say something but it said jackshit except "look at artsy I am!" PSH and Phoenix were brilliant, but Adams was mehhh.
  11. Waltz apparently only lost by one vote. I think him and Leo both have nominations, but they'll end up cancelling each other out for the win :(Also, that's huge for Sally Field.
  12. The D.C. film critics look like they took the consensus from predictions on November 1st and posted those as the nominees, outside of Bardem. Anyway, that is one locked win for Lincoln- I go to college in D.C., and I can pretty much guarantee that one. Big day for awards, got my fingers crossed for Leo, Barks, and Foxx.
  13. Awesome to see Leo jump right back in the race, and Cooper did lots of good for himself as well.
  14. I think Argo wins NBR, either that or Life of Pi. Maybe Lincoln, but I have a feeling it's going to be one of the first two. Best actor for NBR will be DDL, Best Actress will be Riva, Best S actor will be Tommy Lee Jones, Best S actress will be Hathaway.
  15. True. I forget that critic awards tend to go less for visceral, emotional movies like Les Mis (the reason why TKS won nothing until the Globes). But I still wish it had picked up something (or we could see the runner ups)
  16. Wow, congrats to ZDT. Made me want to see it even more.I believe that the favorite is now Lincoln, for sure. I'm not sure if this is enough to put ZDT in the top spot quite yet, but it IS enough to send Les Mis down the chart, pushing Lincoln to front runner status (for now.)Regardless, this is going to be a great year, which, after the snoozefest of last race,is a welcome change.
  17. Predictions right before precusors start1. Les Mis (though I'm starting to lean towards Lincoln)2. Lincoln3. ZDT4. Argo5. Life of Pi6. Silver Linings Playbook7. Django Unchained (Early word is good enough that I'll go out on a limb)8. Armour9. The Master (Though I hope not, personally)
  18. After watching Warrior and reflecting on my list for 2011, 50/50 and Warrior not getting nominated in 2011 when they were far better films than anything nominated is awful. Both films were fabulous, emotional, brilliantly acted films, not two hours of pondering the intricacies of silence and flowers (Tree of Life) or the most cheese possible in a film (ELIC) or film history, back patting masturbation (Hugo).
  19. Wow. I just saw this for the first time today, but wow. 2nd best movie of 2011 behind 50/50, and seriously one of my favorite movies of the past decade. Incredibly emotional, real, exciting, and brilliant. The fact that this and 50/50 weren't nominated for Best Picture while garbage like Tree of Life and Extremely Loud were is an absolute travesty. Same goes for Hardy/Gordon Levitt not getting best actor calls. Hardy re affirmed his status as my favorite actor working today with this performance. Edgerton, who I haven't seen much of, was fantastic too. And Nick Nolte... dear lord, what a performance.
  20. 1. Star Trek Into Darkness2. Zero Dark Thirty3. Django Unchained4. Les Mis5. Man of Steel6. The Hobbit7. Iron Man 38. Elysium 9. 4210. This Is 40
  21. Right now...1. Dark Knight Rises2. 21 Jump Street3. Wanderlust4. Argo5. Lincoln6. Ted7. Skyfall8. Spider ManGreat year so far, but not quite as good as some past years.
  22. Update1. Les Mis (No reason to bump it when nobody has seen it yet and it looks so brilliant)2. Argo3. Lincoln4. Silver Linings5. Life of Pi6. Zero Dark Thirty7. Beasts of the Southern Wild8. Amour 9. The Master (Just barely)First Five offFlightDjango UnchainedMoonrise KingdomThe SessionsThe Impossible
  23. What a brilliant job they did here. This was Daniel Day Lewis at his best since My Left Foot (Though my hate for TWBB as a film maybe be blinding me), and one of the better performances I've seen in years. The supporting cast was great up and down the board. Quite funny, and Speilberg showed alot of restraint, as did WIlliams.
  24. For November, this is still absolutely fantastic, considering almost the entire fanbase has school/work (the people who were teens during the first few now have work, the rest still have school). I think the Friday business will be inflated because of this. Eclipse was so huge because it was a summer release, and alot of the fanbase wasn't old enough to work yet.
  25. I liked alot of the parts of the film, but the sum did not add up to a great whole. The opening plane crash could have been one of the better scenes of the year- but the constant cutaways to Kelly Reilly's character killed it. All of the scenes with Denzel talking alot were great- but they barely gave him many lines. Greenwood, Cheadle, and especially Goodman (who I found Oscar worthy) were all absolutely excellent, but their screen time was limited in comparison to constant scenes of Denzel idly throwing down booze. Overall, I thought that Denzel was so engaging and watchable that he is worth seeing the film for alone. And the three male co stars bring alot to it too. But the film is just as chunky and ham fisted as it gets.
