  1. I don't think you can dismiss the Rock's star/draw power after this- that's like dismissing Tatum after Side Effects. Both were niche films intended to increase their dramatic credibility, not box office clout. Besides, Snitch is still gonna do as much as Parker, TLS, and Bullet to The Head did combined on opening weekend. Plus, he outgrossed his Pain and Gain co star.
  2. Snitch was a pleasant surprise- excellent performances by The Rock, Omar from the Wire, and most especially the dude from the Walking Dead. Wish it was doing better.
  3. As someone who was pretty much obese through elementary and middle school that lost 70 pounds, I can't look at the fat issue through black and white. On one hand, I realize how hard and painful it can be. On the other, I also know with hard work, exercise and diet, most anybody can be skinny again.
  4. I enjoyed Die Hard 5 more than most people, but that number pretty much just sucks. It'll still make a profit WW, but after Taken 2, it just looks kinda pathetic. But holy hot damn for IT, that's incredible. And judging by the reception the trailer for the Heat got during Die Hard, that movie is going to break out too. McCarthy's huge.
  5. Alan Arkin over Murphy for Supporting Actor was one that I didn't like. Arkin was good in that movie, but it was pretty throwaway compared to Murphy's singing/acting/comedy in Dreamgirls. I thought he knocked it out of the park and more.
  6. Those numbers aren't great or awful. They just...... are. Business won't be too great today, its not exactly romantic film 101. Over the weekend it should do gangbusters.
  7. 2/13/13 2/6/13 1, Star Trek Into Darkness 2. Man of Steel 3. Fast Six 4. G.I. Joe 2 5. Iron Man 3 6. Wolverine 7. White House Down 8. Pain and Gain 9. The Great Gatsby 10. The Lone Ranger
  8. Excellent to see those increases for Warm Bodies and SLP. And that's just truly impressive for IT- first 30+ opening in years that I haven't spoken to one person about seeing. Without snow, IT could have hit 38+ and WB would have had an absolutely spectacular drop.
  9. I guess that's just a difference of opinion, then. I thought it was maybe the best performance of 2011. He's the type of quiet, brooding badass who can have screen presence without even saying a word. Very rare these days. I thought he was fantastic in Lawless, TDK, Inception, and Bronson too.
  10. Girls go crazy for Gosling. Nuts. Dude has blogs dedicated to him. He's charismatic enough to have crossover appeal, too. He just needs another Notebook, not things like Drive or Blue Valentine. Hardy and Pine have potential to be big stars, but they didn't really breakout in 2012 like they were supposed. Let's see how they do with their big franchises this year, though.
  11. Tatum is already a huge star and Hemsworth is well on his way. I'm very confident about his ascending- Snow White and Red Dawn already started to prove his worth, and women absolutely love him. Cool dude too. Gosling and JGL are credible actors with female fanbases and crossover appeal, but they just can't seem to pick good (box office wise) projects outside of Crazy, Stupid, Love or TDKR. Jonah Hill is also a candidate for a star from his generation- I know this board hates him, but outside of the Sitter he's done very well for himself. What the generation really needs is a big African-American or Hispanic superstar. Too bad Michael B Jordan doesn't get more play- he's got all the charisma in the world.
  12. With such limited roles in Side Effects and G.I. Joe, it's too bad we have to wait until White House Down for Tatum to truly prove his star power. Coincidentally, that weekend also brings us the Heat, which will be proving ground for McCarthy. I'm feeling a Tatum win that round.
  13. Impressed with Identity Thief, I though it would do big business about a month ago but the poor reviews and lack of hype made me start to guess in the lower-20's.
  14. Uh, either my sarcasm detector ain't working tonight or some of ya'll are being a BIT too hard on a bunch of little kids.
  15. My second favorite movie of all-time behind a New Hope. Perfect in every way. A++
  16. 2/6/13 1, Star Trek Into Darkness 2. Man of Steel 3. Fast Six 4. G.I. Joe 2 5. Iron Man 3 6. Wolverine 7. White House Down 8. Pain and Gain 9. The Great Gatsby 10. The Lone Ranger
  17. Liam Neeson and The Rock are definite action stars, and when a guy like Denzel does pure B-Movie action he's there as well.
  18. Me either. It's even better than "bringing in numbers from Puerto Rico."
  19. That's a bad drop for the Last Stand, but just wait until the holidays start! Also, I'm probably the only person on here who finds that Warm Bodies number slightly disappointing. I've been predicting 23 million for a month now, and considering the crowd last night, I though it would go higher than Chronicle. Still should have great legs though.
  20. Warm Bodies was 95 percent full when I saw it tonight, and the crowd (myself included) absolutely ate it up. Mix of college students, older adults, and middle schoolers. Odd crowd. Really glad to see it's a hit though
  21. Wow, I can't lie, I absolutely loved this movie. Levine's 50/50 is one of my favorite films of the decade, and while it's not that good, he really has hit me emotionally in both that film AND this film. What a deft brand of comedy, romance, and action this was. Hoult, who I wasn't sold on as the next big star, sold me. He's pretty damn great, I can't lie. And Palmer was awesome, as was the supporting cast. Rob Corrody absolutely stole the film with his "bitches, man" line. That killed me. On a side note, this movie and SLP have me feel like one lonely man recently. A-
  22. I don't think Bay is racist. Too conservative for my blood, yes, and a bit homophobic sadly, but racist? Nah. For all the points Fishnets brought up. Also, don't drag Snitch into the B-Movie action flops, the Rock is actually a big time relevant star right now and that movie seems to have a plot.
  23. I like action films too, I can't wait for something like Die Hard. But BTTH looked like a Direct to DVD movie. Maybe it's because I've always loathed Stallone (Arnie's films are just better). Then again, I wanted to see Haunted House for a time too, and everybody told me that looked stupid, so enjoy it!
