Domestically it started with 9M more than The Croods. After 3rd weekend it lost half of that advantage. In the end it should be about equal to The Croods 185-190M. But OS without the benefit of the well known english voices of the voice actors, the picture is not so good. The 400M The Croods made are far away. I guess 200M is the target for it. And this movie has to pay for all the bills of DreamWorks 2015?

what about Guam,Hawaii, Alaska and the infamous Puerto Rico? So the important time is Hollywood and not Zulu-time?

In English speaking countries it will benefit from the voice actors, but elsewhere that won't be a draw. The trailer looked terrible to me, but that was not so for mainly minority audiences in the US. I doubt it will be big OS.

and after closing PDI they have a success like Home!!! that movie looked stupid to me, but the minorities in the US seem to love it Is it the voice actors? Lets say it will drop 30% next week, than it still needs at least 37% for the rest of its run. Still not a given IMHO.

AS drops about 40% at the moment. If it keeps that up, it would finish with $319m. Using the last 2 weeks drop 50% as basis, it would finish with under $300m. To win 2014 it would need average weekly drop rates sub 35%. It only managed that on 2nd Saturday and Sunday. I still say 50:50 to win the year.

I've been to Iceland and flown over Greenland. All the parts of Greenland I saw, were pure ice. In Summer with white nights (bright day light at midnight) most of the island was green. But as far as I know those land were named by the explorers who first visited them (during recorded history that is) and they called, what struck them most.

I like American Football. The organized violence and the strategic play are impressive. As a school sport it is interesting, that you need different types of athletes for the different positions (more than in soccer). I don't understand, why it is called football though, they practically never user their feet to play the ball (egg).

I agree in principle. There are people who will never watch an R-rated war movie no matter how good the WOM is. For what it is a phenomenal success.

To keep interest for franchise alive (and make some money), studios should produce animated TV-series using secondary characters and the setting of those worlds. May once in a while they could have one of the main characters visit in an episode, just to fire up the interest. Qualitywise the difference should not be too big, but with everything already produced for the theatrical releases, that should not be too expensive. Of course you could not create a spin off with these characters, unless the demand is overwhelming. Maybe DWA misjudged all that. But it still could have worked, if their cost were not that high.

As I have not seen either AS or Boyhood up to now, it is hard for me to utter an opinion on them, but I am thinking the most worthy movies for BP are the ones that are really well made and were seen by a lot of people. Terrible but popular fanboy movies or artsy movie nobody really is interested in should not be considered. AS got a BP nomination (it is a movie I am really intersted in seeing) and now it makes a killing at the BO, so I think it is a worthy movie. Wether it should get the award in front of the other contenders, I don't know. But if it really gets an extreme BO in the end and not win BP, than people will be annoyed by the academy, whether deserved or not doesn't matter that much, but the Oscars will suffer and get irrelevant year by year.

yes I liked him too, but if you see him again and again in several movies, this splendid actor becomes boring. There is simply too much Depp , Fischer or Waltz and the character is less important. Actors like DiCaprio are more versatile and give the character they are playing more room. I prefer that.

Yes he reminds me of O.W.Fischer (that is the famous German actor). I am sure Waltz knows him too and tries to imitade him.

catastrophic for Depp I think people are fedup with his "performances". I remember when I first saw a famous German actor and was overawed by his acting. Later after the 3rd movie with him, I realized he was always playing himself playing the part in the film. There is a school in stage acting that wants to achieve exactly this, but for me that is not acting.
