  1. I like that they are having specials on TV now
  2. At least Vampire Weekend moved a week earlier so we now have 3 movies opening on Feb 14 plus Robocop 2 days earlier. 3 romantic movies (Endless Love, About Last Night and Winter's Tale) will battle it out on Feb. 14. Can Hart pull another hit with About Last Night? Let's see
  3. Don't be so sure, The Bible was a big hit on TV. And the target demographic is quite passionate.
  4. It's a known brand and GI Joe cartoon was popular here back in the day. Also, outside It Takes a Man, there were no other breakout local film the past 2 years there were 3-4 movies in the top 10.
  5. Financially speaking, it was still good move for WB to split Hobbit to 3 movies. Sure far from the success of LOTR but money is still good enough
  6. Another good weekend on the horizon. Nut Job seems a harmless kids flick and squirrels are cute, could likely do 60-70M total
  7. Given the lack of love for SMB overall I don't think a vote split caused the Hanks snub. He's probably 6th, the Best Actor is a very competitive category anyway.
  8. I like that the tech categories like make up and visual effects don't give a damn if the movie has bad reviews or a big box office flop, if they feel that tech people made good work in a bad movie then so what if it has bad reputation, for what is worth the one who nominates in those categories are supposed to be experts in their field anyway. I'm glad Before Midnight was not snubbed for Screenplay, I know it was expected based on the track record but since it's not player anywhere else and such a competitive I felt it was vulnerable. I'm so glad it didn't
  9. Wreck It Ralph, Frankenweenie and ParaNorman had better critical reception overall than DM2 and The Croods, the competition last year was actually tight.
  10. Yes but the scenes with practical effects were executed well and the standout IMHO. And that was probably the one they showcased in the bakeoff competition for the shortlisted movies so that's why they made the cut.
  11. Agree! I wish it was nominated for Original Screenplay but it can still win without a nomination like Titanic. The Internet backlash seems to be directed now to American Hustle. I really think this movie has a shot for BP win
  12. So “Alone Yet Not Alone" is a small Christian movie that was played in very limited screens. Very obscure but the Music branch is known for this anyway
  13. In Minneapolis. I read an article about him and he said he saw the open casting call on local TV so he tried out
  14. Brave still won though but it was the highest grossing animated film last year so that gave it an edge
  15. I'm glad with The Lone Ranger visual effects nod because it shows that practical visual effects can still shine in this CGI-heavy world ight now. Yeah the movie is dull but the craftmanship in the railroad set pieces IMHO is worthy of the nomination.
  16. The Lone Ranger's effects are impressive and practical effects at that.
  17. When Rush was not appearing in the tech guilds nominations, I knew it will get shut out. The Abdi nod/Hanks snub is kinda similar with Helen Hunt nod/John Hawkes snub last year.
  18. Saw this on twitter: Barkhad Abdi to Tom Hanks: "I'm the captain now!" Hanks is probably 6th, too bad he got snubbed. Really wanted him to get a nomination again but anyway glad both CP and SMB did well in the box office
