  1. It was also a money issue if you believe various sources. Marvel lowballed Terrance Howard for IM2, which was disappointing. I like Cheadle as an actor, but I felt RDJ and Howard had a lot better chemistry together and I would have preferred to see him in the sequel. They also supposedly lowballed Mickey Rourke at first and barely got him to sign on after some tough negotiating. Seriously, why so greedy? They better not fucking lowball Whedon for Avengers 2. Write the guy a $50m check and give him a $300m budget to play with.
  2. It's possible. Can't ignore WOM traveling so quickly these days and getting to people who might not have been interested. It makes the ceiling go up significantly, whereas something like SM3 was pretty much set in stone. There was a certain amount of demand from marketing and hype, and that was it. In that film's case, this was a GOOD thing because if WOM got out as quickly as it does today, it would have dropped on Saturday without midnight.
  3. I think it might be. Like I said earlier, WOM travels faster than ever before thanks to Twitter especially.
  4. Exactly. I remember BKB arguing with me at KJ that TDK would have made "more or less the SAME" as Batman Begins if Ledger didn't die. Talk about being in fucking denial and refusing to admit you were way off. I'm a believer in the Ledger effect at $100m, but fucking $328m domestic just because a guy died? Really?
  5. Uh, BKB wasn't exactly gracious when TDK exploded. I'm just saying that's one example where someone steadfastly refused to admit they were wrong. He still refuses to give the movie itself any credit for its success, it was all about Ledger dying.
  6. It's not just the resolution of the TV, but the size of it. The difference between a solid DVD transfer and a good Blu-ray transfer is not as noticeable on a 30 inch TV as it is on a 50 inch TV. The bigger your TV, the more noticeable the difference becomes.
  7. Jaws comes out on Blu-ray as well. Spielberg says the new remaster for Blu-ray looks better than the movie ever did in the theater back in 1975. Looking forward to it very much, although I hope they haven't tampered with it too much.
  8. Hell no. But I was disappointed to see that they stuck the only 2D showing on a medium sized screen. The two really big screens are 3D. Pisses me off. I saw Inception at that theater and the screen was at least 50% bigger than the one I saw Avengers on last night.
  9. Can't rate it just yet. Need to see it multiple times before rating it. There are elements I don't like. Loki's costume is retarded. Sorry if that offends the fanboys, but it is. The first 10 minutes also bored the shit out of me.
  10. Dude, you are going to love it. The Hulk especially is incredible. If your screening ends up similar to mine, you'll get a TDK Joker vibe every time the Hulk decides to do something. His moments are THAT damn good. Huge cheers and laughter at my screening for him. The rest of the characters are also very good. The banter between them is hilarious.
  11. Absolutely. Has a pretty good shot at $70m. WOM spreads faster today than ever before.
  12. I calculated $69.3 million. That was assuming 3D prices are 30% higher than 2D. Some have said that's too low on the premium, that it's more like 35-45%. Who knows. But you can safely say it added at least $11m to the gross.
  13. Indeed. My hope is that Avengers will open the moviegoing public's eyes. You can have a big, "fun," "lighthearted" spectacle with smart writing and legitimately funny moments. You don't have to accept the trash of Bay's Transformers series with its fart joke material and shaky cam action sequences.
  14. Sorry, but you keep saying a 2.8 is the same territory as TDK's multiplier. It's not. If TDK had a 2.8, it would have finished at $444m. That is a significant chunk of change below the $533m it actually made. TDK had a 3.36 multiplier. If Avengers pulls that off, it's headed for $650m or higher (depending on how high the OW ends up).And I would agree with what you said about the individual hero sequels. I don't think they need to do IM3 either, but it's already getting made of course.
  15. The other thing that makes it difficult is Avatar made a ton of cash in two different years, not just one. If I remember right, the average ticket price in early 2010 was quite a bit higher than 2009.
  16. Yeah, it's around 5 million tickets. But it's a lot closer than you would think seeing $750m vs. $533m.
  17. That's because Avatar had a 75-80% 3D share. And I sure hope that couple hundred million comment was a typo. :lol:I calculated about a 5m ticket difference between Avatar and TDK.
  18. I haven't graded it yet because I haven't seen it enough times. I did enjoy it very much and absolutely loved the Hulk.
  19. No it won't. I calculated a 60% 3D share with 30% higher prices for opening day and it came out to a 16% boost. TDK adjusts to $581m without 3D. Add the 16% 3D boost and it's $674m.
