  1. Ohhh! Sorry for misinterpreting then lol. I had no idea Ray joined Paramount - good for him (but bad for us...)!
  2. Er, I get the impression people are mocking my post? I was just asking if anyone knew what the story was, wow. (If there is no hostility intended and I'm reading into things too much, disregard this.)
  3. Forgive me if this has already been covered, but what's going on with Box Office Mojo? I've noticed Ray doesn't write their reports anymore, and ever since his departure BOM is always so slow to update. What's up with that? Hopefully they get their act together soon and this isn't the 'new normal' for BOM.
  4. Dude, if you think going to the cinemas in America is expensive then don't EVER come to Australia. Student tickets are $16.50, adults $20.
  5. LOL yeah til one day you find yourself slapped with a big ol' sexual harassment lawsuit.
  6. Then look at your education system. HINT: other countries watch Hollywood comedies too.
  7. Lucy's having a nice run for a film that I presumed would have shocking WOM and massive drops. Scarjo's power
  8. Miller's win is so surprising to me. As is Moore's, but in a good way. Yaaasss the queen completes her trifecta
  9. Yeah no, that's not how it works. I love Jennifer. That doesn't mean I have to love everything she says or that I can't be annoyed by her complaining about her fame so often. Is the world always this black and white to you?
  10. This isn't the first time she's talked about it. She brings it up all the time. And yes, she complains about it. I'm a JLaw fan, I pretty much stalk all of her interviews, so I know for a fact that her bringing this stuff up is a pattern. She's done it too many times. Enough already.
  11. I highly doubt she was being literal when she said that.... I'm a bit over her complaining about her fame all the time though. I understand it would be hard and isolating for her, but she should have the perspective to realise that the general public isn't going to have much sympathy for a rich successful young actress who is adored by so many people. She used to be able to acknowledge that, she used to talk about how she knows she won't be relevant forever and how she hates actors complaining... and now she's turning into an actor who complains. It's a bit disappointing.
  12. In what scene did she overact? Honest question. I've seen a couple (not many) critics call her performance "too" big, and other than the Live and Let Die scene (which I loved, but I can see how some people could argue it's too big) she really wasn't OTT at all.
  13. A lot of things in the trailers didn't make the film. I saw it for a second time this weekend - the theatre was packed and it was only a 1pm session! Based on that I would not be surprised if it gets #1 here in Australia. The film holds up well on a second viewing. I'm bumping my score from 8/10 to 8.5. Bradley and Jennifer are still my MVPs but I appreciate what Adams and Bale did more than now than I did after the first watch. Especially Adams - I didn't warm to her too much after the first viewing, but now I realise she only really has two bad scenes (when she and Bale first meet, and when he takes her to his office for the first time) - they just happen early on the film and so start off her performance on a bad note. Other than those two scenes, she's really great.
  14. It's not. It works. Make no mistake, this is a messy film. It really is. I predict the tomatometer to go down a lot, I'll be surprised if it finished above 90%. But it WORKS. It's entertaining, it's funny, it's heartbreaking. The performance are out of this world amazing. JLaw and Bradley were the two MVPs and I really hope Bradley gets a nomination because he is out of control. Watching Louis CK play the straight man to Bradley's insane OTTness is truly a joy to watch. Jennifer killed it. She really did. I was expecting a "Tiffany" type character based on the released clips, but Rosalyn is a much more vulnerable and weak character. You think she's going to be this ballsy firecracker, and of course she has those moments, but underneath it all she's a scared and sheltered little girl who lacks the social skills and life experience to be independent. Christian Bale is less of a husband to her and more of a security blanket, and THAT'S why she doesn't want to let him go. It's expected that Jennifer will nail the loud yelling scenes, but it's the quieter moments where we see how deeply Rosalyn is afraid of life that she REALLY knocks out of the park, and it's those moments that are going to guarantee her a third Oscar nod. 8/10. Loved it.
  15. They know who their BO draw is JLaw gets bums in seats.
  16. I'm not American but I "get" Oprah. She's the ultimate rags-to-riches story, a woman who was never handed anything but worked hard and overcame plenty of obstacles to earn her success. In an industry dominated by old white men she, a black woman, rose to be one of the most powerful figures. People are in awe of that, people are inspired by that, she's a trail blazer. She projects an image of warmth and compassion and thoughtfulness that celebrity interviewees and her demographic of middle-aged female viewers respond to. And despite now being filthy stinking rich she knows how to still present herself as "one of the people", only ever really displaying her wealth through philanthropy so her audience never felt they could no longer relate to her or empathise with her. I never watched her talk show - I'm wayyy too young to be a part of her demographic - and I find her personality to be at times fake/condescending/annoying and I found her performance in The Butler to be the very definition of "overrated". But still I look at all she's accomplished and can't help but respect the hell out of her.
  17. I know the only reason I decided to see The Hunger Games was because I kept hearing how good the main actress was. Had never read the books, didn't pay any attention to the trailers and wrote off the franchise as being another Twilight (how ignorant and foolish I was!!!). But when I heard everyone - critics, online, IRL - praise JLaw's performance I decided it was worth checking out. I truly believe that's partly why THG's legs were so good (for this kind of film) because there would have been many many others like me who initially had no interest in the film but positive WOM not only about the film in general, but Jennifer in particular, convinced us to give it a shot.
  18. Battle of the bow and arrows! Katniss vs Hawkeye... who wins? My money's definitely on Katniss
  19. Even though I don't think it's very likely, I am crossing all my fingers and all my toes and praying to my Katniss shrine that this happens. When was the last time a film that rested entirely on a female lead's shoulders topped the year's box office? It would make such an incredible statement that (hopefully) Hollywood studios won't be able to ignore.
  20. Doesn't it go without saying that CF is going to have better legs than Twilight? Twilight is like the most frontloaded franchise ever. THG, on the other hand, is a four-quadrant franchise. It resonates with the general public & casual movie goers in a way Twilight never did. Thinking CF will have Twilight legs is actually ludicrous.
