  1. Didn’t you just download Snapchat like 8 months ago or something?
  2. I mean, when I was Han’s age (17, right?) I was definitely insecure about being in public alone. If I went to get food on the way to something, I would sit and eat it in my car (even with hot temperatures) rather than sit and eat in the store by myself. I’d never go to a movie by myself, and I’d only really go shopping if it was with somebody else. Once I graduated I got over it pretty quickly. Life’s to short to be insecure about the slight possibility somebody random might judge you for something as small as being by yourself. Now, I often enjoy time to myself. Gives myself time to think clearly and recharge from the week.
  3. Repeat after me, It’s not your fault! Whatever happened, it’s not your fault!
  4. Also, even if some random did silently judge you how does it effect your life? They’ll forget about you in 5 seconds and you’ll move on oblivious. It’s perfectly normal to eat, shop, see a movie, etc by yourself.
  5. I’ve never even paid attention to people at a theater. The only time I’ve judged someone is when they’re either obnoxious and draw attention to themselves or they bring their 5 year old to a late night showing of the Revenant.
  6. Most of my friends only want to go see MCU stuff plus a few other blockbusters. So if I’m not home (where I can drag family to see stuff with me) I usually just go by myself to see stuff like Blade Runner, The Post, Call me by your name, etc. Nothing wrong with going by yourself, especially when all of your friends are casuals.
  7. That’s possible but would require BP to hit its uppermost cap, IW to hit mid to high range and everything else to either underperform or hit mid-low range (sub-400m) I think at least one of TI2, Poppins, Solo, Grinch, JW2, and Deadpool 2 will go past 415m DOM or so. I have a hard time seeing BP have the same appeal as WW.
  8. I’m thinking 150m+ OW for BP right now, it has a lot of hype and will be the first 2018 release to do decent numbers.
  9. I sent two links in an email to a class I’m an assistant for. I literally got an email saying, “I wasn’t able to click on the links you sent.” (And it wasn’t because they didn’t work because a lot of the class had already accessed the docs I sent. I can see who viewed and responded on the pages) Apparently we need to do a better job teaching students to copy and paste links?
  10. The fact they keep arbitrarily changing their TOS, especially the clause about being able to fine you if you don’t see a movie in its full, is off-putting. Doesnt make me want subscribe
  11. I could believe maybe 1m a week from MP users at AMC. The issue is, how much of that 1m would have been spent anyways? Probably at least 25-50%. Further, that’s not much leverage over AMC to revenue share. Plus, by trying to force leverage so soon, it shows MP is running out of money and trying to fast track to sustainability. That also means, growing a subscriber base and more tickets being bought will actually just sink MP even faster, as they’re in a predicament where their costs skyrocket the more people use their product. That’s not the same for say Netflix or Spotify, which have high cost structures but are much more tame in comparison. If MP is already desperate it means they’ll be sinking soon, and no reason to cut a deal with a company with little leverage and that’s like to not exist by the year’s end. I am interested if theaters might experiment with subscription services. Even then, I doubt any of them will be as good of a bargain as MP is.
  12. Good idea! Academy Award Winners Gary Oldman for Red Riding Hood Frances McDormand for Burn After Reading Sam Rockwell for Iron Man 2 Allison Janney for Tammy Casey Affleck for A Ghost Story Emma Stone for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Mahershala Ali for Free State of Jones Viola Davis for “untitled” Michael Mann cyberthriller in China Meryl Streep for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again Jennifer Lawrence for X-Men: Apocalypse Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant
  13. Spotify’s in a position where it’s large enough to make demands, which I think is what MoviePass was trying to do (they just did it incompetently, and there’s not much they can offer that a theatrical subscription service cannot) They also tricked investors into getting on board, so I reckon they’re fine to start trying to figure out how to shrink those kids margins. Netflix isn’t very transparent about costs, but I actually believe they’re doing well on the margin. Add to the fact, most of their new content is self-made, they’re turning into a more conventional TV Channel model.
  14. Yeah, I was giving them the benefit of the doubt for about a month, being skeptical but thinking “maybe they have a plan!” But yeah, they’ll either change their model or go under before the year’s end. They’re bumbling around and burning money on nothing. If I’m a theater, why do I give MoviePass a chunk of my concession money (as well as lower ticket prices)? The service MoviePass provides is something theater chains could supply themselves (at low cost to them) through subscription deals. They can’t financially support a large base with their model, but they need a large base to have leverage to get deals with theaters (the only way they’ll be profitable). This ultimately looks like it’ll be a failed attempt at trying to take the Spotify/Netflix model to cinemas. I think there’s merit to that model, but it’ll only work if it’s supplied by the theaters themselves.
  15. I do think seeing samples of theaters and presale numbers can tell you a little bit about how a movie’s playing. In many cases it likely will match up similarly to what’s actually happening. However you have to be careful, as it’s obvious certain movies play better in certain areas. It’s a single datapoint. Florida is probably more like the General american public then say Panhandle Oklahoma, but it’s definitely more of a grain of salt data point. That being said, I don’t see why Hostiles couldn’t open over 10m.
  16. These are the trailers! Pre/Post-Game Trailers and Promotional Tie-Ins Black Panther-Lexus Promo Peter Rabbit A Quiet Place Annihilation Red Sparrow Blockers Main Trailers Fifty Shades Freed Truth or Dare Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! A Wrinkle in Time Avengers: Infinity War Deadpool 2 Pacific Rim Uprising Solo: A Star Wars Story (3D) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
  17. Actually I think the most reasonable explanation is that that Oprah and Witherspoon are both lizard people. Thus they actually have many hands and legs, sometimes they slip up at hiding them!
  18. Han, you live in old people ville Florida. Of course Hostiles is selling well. Tele’s old and loved Hostiles, therefore all old people do. Its in the name. Old People are hostile therefore they see hostiles
  19. 1. Deadpool 2. All of the rest (including Thor: Ragnarok)
  20. They have the coolest coach, so they can’t be lame.
  21. So cheer for the Patriots because they are the ones with an Aaron Rodgers level WB
