The BFG (Spielberg Attached to Direct) July 1, 2016
The Panda replied to Fancyarcher's topic in Box Office Discussion
If this movie does poorly I'll lose even more faith in America. -
I can't wait for all these ninja investor snatchers to get the percentage penalty so I can have Star Wars all to myself at the end of the year.

I'll edit this into the main post in a bit, but be sure to include the year the movie was released next to it. I'm sorry for forgetting to mention that. It helps to make things easier when trying to score. Also, it's okay to comment on people's lists if they post publically, but don't hate on them. A tease is fine, but even if Howard the Duck is their favorite movie dont ask them to delete or anything like that. Let's keep this (for most part) good natured. -

Oh my... -
Also, one last bit of my perspective on the whole job loss bit. There was a section in my life a few years back where I worked a lot in theater, since then I've stopped and began to focus more on the future career I want than the extra work on the side to help support my classes. There was a time I lost my role of Polonius in Hamlet because a few key cast members didn't show up to the first few rehearsals, the director was fickle, and cut the play to go work on something else. I lost my job working on lights because the director did a creative overhaul to go barestage and gave my job to someone who was working on the set because they knew the director better. I've lost a role in Annie Get Your Gun because the director decided he actually didn't want to put on that show and simply told the cast he had given parts to, sorry. Should I go on? I understand losing your job because of something that had nothing to do with you sucks. I also moved on from it and realized rejections and disappointments are guarantees in life and that it was better for my future to just move on and look for the next opportunity.

What I also don't get is, if WB ends up thinking it's better financially to delay JL1 and change the creative team, and it does end up helping them financially and creating a more sustainable franchise in the long run, aren't they saving more long term jobs than risking JL1 being the death of the franchise? People look at short term job loss as cruel and cold-hearted, but in the end people get fired and people get hired. The economy booms and the economy crashes. If WB thinks this would be better for long-term growth for the studio, then it's possible they're taking a short term financial bullet for better long run success. And to be fair, If you are one of the people saying, "what about the jobs that will be lost if Snyder is fired," if you've ever had satisfaction in something you didn't like failing. If you have ever encouraged the change of a director. If you have ever been satisfied with a company you didn't like having bad quarters. If you've ever been happy or wanted a corporate decision you didn't like to cause financial backfire. If you've ever disliked the cast/crew of any movie and wanted it to fail, then you're acting hypocritical. People losing their jobs because a project failed isn't anything new, and people getting hired/raises because a project succeeded isn't anything new. It's how the business works.

Bringing up Allegiant is funny. When people bash a film nobody cares about, nobody bats an eye. But bash BvS and everyone loses their minds! Seriously though, I don't think there's a problem with people posting positive or negative things about BvS, or even poking some fun about it. The only problem is when people get vitrolic and start insulting others about it. You can have and discuss your negative/positive opinions, have fun with it, and not start hating on people. We do the same thing with every other movie, BvS has just put this behavior under a much more heated microscope.

I agree with both of you. But either way, WB will do what they think looks the most profitable. If they think the increase in revenue they get from a new creative team will cover the lost costs from delaying the project, than they will and have every right to do so. If you go into the film/entertainment industry you kind of need to go in expecting and preparing for things like this because they happen all of the time, job stability is hard to come by in the field. And we don't go around saying, "What about the lost jobs?" for every movie that gets last minute changes in creative teams. So it seems a little weird that only comes up now. Things fail all of the time and that often hurts the worker much more than the person actually responsible. It's a sad truth.

We missed our annual top 100 movies countdown last year, so we myswell kick this off again and see how the list has changed over the years. We should all be familiar with lists by now (and as long as people show interest in this, I intend to stay on top of it, for real. I picked this due date because it gives me the best opportunity to crank this out fast) Ranking will go as follows 1. 10 points 2 - 5. 8 points 6 - 10. 6 points 11 - 25. 4 points 26 - 50. 2 points 51 - 100. 1 point If your list consists of less than 50 films than I cut your lists point value in half. It shouldn't be that hard to come up with 50 movies you love. Especially since I'm giving you a month and a half to do it.
