  1. Has anyone mentioned Con Air ? Nicholas cage, John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, John Malkovich, Ving Rhames, Dave Chapelle, Danny Trejo etc. and it is a pretty good pure action flick. Edit - And all of these guys have significant roles.
  2. Futurist needs to get a grip if this is why he has been absent from the forums. It is just a movie that is going to make a lot of money either way so a few millions her or there aren't that important.
  3. I think weekend numbers will tell the story. My guess is that it needs to make 75% of its eventual total by the end of this weekend so $300 million by sunday will make $400 million very likely. Next week isn't going to be good for any movie and then The Hobbit opens the week after that so nothing over $100 million is a given after this Sunday.
  4. I think 70 million OW for CF will happen but still not sold on $75 million+ as these day to day spikes even out and the movie may just be burning off demand on a holiday Wednesday time frame. Frozen will make $55 million + and may get very close to my $60 million 3 day prediction.
  5. My issue is with the regulating body sweeping it under the rug. Mistakes happen, abuse happens, accidents happen but do your job at all time. They knew animals were harmed and they still gave them all-clear certificate. This to me is about incompetence and corruption. If your "No Animals Were Harmed" certificate is worth anything then don't give it out when animals were actually harmed. This isn't that hard.
  6. O. Russell is a very talented director but a douchebag person. It says something when the likes of Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale don't want to work with you because you are too douchey for them.
  7. I am not even going to get into the discussion about this THG-Twilight comparison but I think it is very obvious why people are comparing the two movies. Both are huge pre-Thanksgiving openers and the first THG movie had a drop that was in the same ballpark as the Twilight sequels.
  8. Either you compare it to something or wait for the actual numbers. DH1 also had the same drop as CF on its first Monday and it dropped 60% on its second weekend. That's what I am going with for now.
  9. First THG movie also dropped over 60% in its second weekend. Is that a fair comparison ?
  10. What else are you going to compare it to specially when its Monday drop appears to be the exact same as the last Twi movie ?
  11. 12.2 million will give it the exact same Monday drop as BD2 -64.5%. If it follows BD2 then this will have a sub-60 million second weekend. I think the likelihood is that the next weekend will be in the low 60s.
  12. I think a lot of people have convinced themselves that AIW was a really, really terrible movie when it wasn't. AIW2 is not going to make 300 million obviously but $200 million can still happen if this movie is good enough.
  13. $500 million won't happen without a 3X multiplier from the existing markets and that seems like the best case scenario in major European markets (UK,Germany etc.). We'll have to see how it holds up in LA and Asia. I think 450 is more likely than 500 at this point as The Hobbit opens in less than three weeks and it will be strong in all of these markets.
  14. I don't think Paulson will happen. Is Harvey even campaigning for Margo Martindale ? I know he is campaigning for Julia Roberts but I am not sure about others.
  15. Based on what I am reading this movie is going to be camp as fuck.
  16. LGF shares are down 10% . To be honest, they were due for a drop but this opening made the drop a bit more brutal than it shuld've been.
  17. I never bought the fudge thing. Even if the same studio is distributing the movie, different people are involved with different projects. If you are a producer, financier , director, actor or someone else with a financial stake in the profits you just aren't going to sit around and let the studio hand over your money to some other movie. There are other ways to fudge the finances though.
  18. Htflix just updated their In Contention page and American Hustle appears in two major categories - BP and Best Supporting Actress. http://www.hitfix.com/contenders
  19. Will Smith is notorious for picking only movies that will be big hits without him. A younger Will Smith would've never done "After Earth" because a younger Will Smith didn't have a 13-14 year old son.
  20. Probably but I am not a big believer in star power affecting the box office of blockbuster movies too much. Star power is important for mid-budget movies. This is why actors like Tom Cruise, Denzel, Sandler etc. can command $20 million salaries.
  21. JLaw was hardly a household name when THG blew-up. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that 50% of the people who showed up on THG's opening weekend didn't even know who JLaw was at that time.
  22. No. I am going by the mixed reception it is getting from people who have seen it. Some think it is a masterpiece, others find it confounding and someone else said it was okay. That's the very definition of mixed reception.
