  1. Does the population of the Tokyo region go to movies more often than the rest of Japan, per capita? I know as a whole the country isn't heavily movie-going (about 1 movie per capita per year), but I'm curious if different regions are wildly off that mark.
  2. Actually, it could be the case. It's possible many school districts had school on Monday even if it would have been spring break to make up for the excessive number of snow days that happened earlier this year.
  3. Regardless of when Easter happens, school districts will tend to have their spring breaks at about the same time each year. Sometimes it will coincide with Easter. Sometimes it won't. Easter isn't the deciding factor.
  4. I wonder if Australia could turn out to be the one market where Lego earns more than Frozen. Looks like it could be close.
  5. If you add in TLM and Rescuers Down Under, it's basically asking which is the worst Renaissance film. And it's Pocahontas. The music and quality of animation (both quite high) aren't enough to overcome the incredibly problematic storytelling elements. It's in the running for worst WDAS films ever.
  6. I believe if Japan out grosses domestic, it'll mean 1b OS. That would be something.
  7. I think someone earlier in one of the threads posted what Spirited Away's gross would be at the current exchange rate. It was just shy of $300m.
  8. It would kinda fit, though. I mean, if Frozen's going to go out with a bang, why not do what it hasn't done anywhere: become the #1 movie of all time in a territory. (At least, it hasn't as far as I know. It's the #1 animated in a lot, though.)
  9. There are plenty of people outside of girls who provided repeat viewings.
  10. The muppets tend to work best in shorter segments. Look at how great some of the advertisements are for both the past two films, not as items to sell the film, but just as standalone products themselves. Or the various youtube videos that have gone viral (Bohemian Rhapsody, anyone?) Disney should probably refocus to just producing that sort of product. They could do another sketch show (which provides a nice showcase for shorter pieces), but it would be even better to just make the short pieces they can put out there online as well as slot in at various points on their channels, perhaps with the occasional TV special.
  11. It's a mature series. It'll be interesting to see how GotG does, because it's a "new" film. But I think going forward we're likely to see more conglomeration of the MCU numbers. AoU will probably decline a bit from the first, and the Phase 3 movies probably won't see an appreciable bump from Phase 2.
  12. Beating it in dollars is not impossible. Beating it in yen is... considerably more unlikely.
  13. Vin Diesel - I really expected him to become the go-to action leading man, but that didn't really happen. I suppose it's because of the shift over the past decade to franchise everything, so at least he's got FatF.
  14. So, for another day, Frozen is still the second highest grossing film in 2014.
  15. If we weren't obsessive about box office numbers, why the hell would we be on this site? (I seriously only joined the forum because I needed to discuss Frozen's run.) I did say "starting". ^_~
  16. I'm starting to get a sense for what the meltdowns can be like on this forum.
  17. Pity about Peabody & Sherman. It's not even going to hit 120m.
  18. I've been thinking I should start up a movie production company like The Asylum, but for indie films. First in the lineup would be "The Great Bucharest Motel". There's a market for that, right?
  19. Yeah, most things tend to end up somewhere between a 3 and a 4. Truthfully, I could probably make it a 3 point scale, with 1&2 combining and 3&4 combining. I mostly stick to a 5 point scale because that's what Netflix uses, so I'm trained a bit there.
