  1. i think LEGO is one of those rare instances where a movie is able to transcend its somewhat gimicky premise by being witty and heartfelt (still have to see it, which wont be until april 10th, but thats what i gather from the reviews)... as for the frozen teaser... uhm the sven / olaf one? that one was intended to lure in little boys
  2. That is probably played a part in frozens good hold... but i also think that lego skews significantly more towards male viewers... also va flopping so hard might have helped frozen quite a bit (or to put it the other way round, va probably suffered quite a bit because of frozen)
  3. i am afraid i dont understand a word of this... but at least according to the video comments it is pretty entertaining its a parody video from china right?
  4. yes, that will be really interesting... localizing comedies is always challenging. Though if LEGOs gags are primarily delivered through visuals i think it should be able to do pretty well
  5. it kicked off all the vamipre themed tv shows like True Blood, Vampire Diaries and in a way also the US version of Being Human... but yea on the big screen that success wasnt repeated. (edit damn it too slow with my answer )
  6. Maybe some of the stuff i said about japanese audiences might apply to SK ones as well? Themes of repressing your own feelings and smiling in the face of inner agony as represented by Elsa and always keeping optimistic and headstrong even when facing great challenges as displayed by Anna might be part of the appeal... anyways it is just astonishing how this movie has been doing in SK btw there is a large number of great cosplays from SK cosplayers as well as quite a few extremely well made covers: it will be really interesting to see whether all of this can be repeated in Japan as well...
  7. Is that a good number with respect to the limited screen count?
  8. naaahhh... thats because it does not have any competition!!!
  9. damn! it did worse in Austria ... seems musicals are really not liked by my fellow countrymen and women
  10. good that you guys waited... now you can go to the sing along!
  11. Disney Japan just released the official japanes movie version of let it go!
  12. Sweden opening this weekend right?
  13. i guess thats the long shot... if TAW underperforms and the super bowl hits LS and especially RA really really hard then that might happen
  14. Regarding these numbers... is the number of showings also published somewhere? Or is that simply an internal thing for theater chains? Number of theaters seems to be such an arbitrary measure... i guess its the easiest to count, but still
  15. Yea, i agree that we should at least keep our hopes in check with respect to china... it really seems such a wildcard... if japan breaks out like SK it will already be pretty epic
  16. I have been thinking about what kind of impact to expect from japan and i have the feeling that many themes in the movie will resonate extremely strongly with the gp there. Though i mostly know about japanese culture secondhand i believe things like sacrifice for the good of others, being persistent in the face of great odds and the european fairitale setting in general should be bid draws... and as already mentioned by others 1B WW should be pretty safe since SK can make up for china underperforming and as long as japan does not completely bomb (which, as you mentioned should not be the case) everything should work out
  17. I think it depends on the country whether a singalong release really makes any sense... for example i doubt that it would really work in austria or germany... stuff like karaoke isnt big around here :-)
  18. as somebody who didnt vote (i havent seen enough movies this year) and since its quite a bit of additional effort im not sure i should ask for this, but would it be possible to see the distribution of votes for each movie? That is, how many times ppl voted a movie for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, ... place? That would provide insight into which movie got a top spot because of broad support and which because of a high placement on a few lists...
  19. http://entertainment.time.com/2014/01/23/frozen-sing-along/ i guess its disneys way of trying to push frozen towards 400M in a way i really like the idea since it directly acknowledges the movies fans... whether this will be more effective than just a normal release in more theaters will be interesting. But i think they will get some pretty nice publicity from this move regardless of whether it helps the final bo numbers.
