    Interest in this will fade over the coming weeks/months, but it is imo a pretty nice thing to see this long slow burn... its going to be a little bit like good background music

    Well it did only get a limited release as far as i can tell... i guess they didnt think that they could find an angle to market this to the US general public since it is rooted so deeply in Japanese folklore and thinking (as others have mentioned).

    Just like Frozen it hit a nerve in the general public. There are themes of hard honest work and dedication in there that probably resonated very strongly with the Japanese. Plus for me it is one of the best (if not the best) animated movie(s) period

    yeah, Godzilla seems to be really stamping all over the place... quick update to the google trends graph i posted earlier in the Thursday thread: That one contains data up until Thursday. And i marked the thursday numbers for CA2, TASM2 as well as Neighbours... I wont be surprised if this thing actually does explode even more on Saturday/Sunday. As for xmen. Next weekend is going to be really fierce

    Regarding Godzilla and online buzz... it is really looking pretty huge on google trends right now which measures search traffic regarding a topic (and that chart only includes numbers up until wednesday). It is clearly above both CA2 in red as well as Spidey in yellow (btw its also pretty apparent that interest in spiderman has dwindled considerably over its second weekend...) with respect to their corresponding days. Whether this really will lead to a 100+ OW will be interesting... it might be that search interest in godzilla is especially high because it is not a sequel and people have to do some googling in order to know more about the movie.

    As far as i understood (please correct me if i am wrong) there are no official weekend estimates directly from within Japan... stuff that is posted here is mostly based on some guys program that checks the online ticketing systems for some of the theatre chains. Naturally those numbers are not always reliable since marketshare can shift quite strongly from time to time (for example the singalong which was primarily at the TOHO chain skewed estimates quite a bit). If you are looking for posts about records then just search this thread for Corpse (his/her posts from another forum are usually reposted on here). And T E Lawrence usually keeps track of individual peoples estimates

    yeah, as other have mentioned, combining more than one let it go video easily tops Happy... i mean for example the disney one and the disney uk one (which are 100% the same video) amount to 256M views and thats not even counting multiple singalong versions that are also basically the same video...
